๐ AFRICA DAY 2026 | One Africa. One Future.
Today, we celebrate more than a continent.
We celebrate a legacy of resilience, innovation, knowledge, culture, and possibility.
Africa Day invites us to reflect on who we are, where we come from, and importantly โ where we are going.
For too long, Africa has often been positioned at the margins of global conversations around higher education, research, mobility, and knowledge production. Yet across the continent, African institutions, scholars, students, and communities continue to shape solutions to some of the worldโs most pressing challenges.
At IEASA, we believe the time has come not only to participate in global higher education conversations โ but to lead them.
This yearโs conference theme,
โREWRITING THE AGENDA: Internationalisation Through a Global South Lens,โ
calls on us to critically rethink whose voices shape internationalisation, whose knowledge is valued, and how partnerships can become more equitable, reciprocal, and transformative.
As we celebrate Africa Day, we ask:
What would internationalisation look like if African perspectives, priorities, and lived realities were placed at the centre โ rather than the periphery โ of global higher education?
The future of international education cannot be built for Africa without being built with Africa.
Today, we honour our heritage while imagining bold, collaborative futures rooted in dignity, inclusion, and shared humanity.
๐ One Africa. One Future.

Today we wrapped up the Canada-South Africa Partnership Mission with campus visits to four universities in the Western Cape.
The mission, which brought a delegation representing 15 Canadian universities, colleges and polytechnics to South Africa for one week (3-7 March 2025), was hosted by IEASA in partnership with the CBIE BCEI (Canadian Bureau for International Education) and the Trade Commissioner Service - Global Affairs Canada of Canada in South Africa.
We would like to thank our host institutions - University of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), the University of the Western Cape and Stellenbosch University - for extending a warm welcome to the Canadian delegation and for their time and commitment to discussing how we can strengthen existing collaborations and explore new partnerships.
We wish our Canadian visitors safe travels home, and we are looking forward to future engagements.
