📢 📢 Congratulations to the Academy of Sceince of South Africa (ASSAf) Member Prof Liesl Zühlke recognition as a 2026 L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science International Award Laureate.

This prestigious honour is a well-deserved recognition of her outstanding contributions to cardiac and cardiovascular science, particularly her work focused on children and underserved communities. Prof Zühlke research has advanced scientific understanding and improved health outcomes for vulnerable populations, especially women and children in low- and middle-income countries.

ASSAf joins global science leaders in Washington, D.C., as the US National Academy of Sciences hosts the 2026 Science20 (S20) engagements under the theme “Strengthening Resilience to Natural Hazards through Emerging Technologies and International Collaboration.” Prof Himla Soodyall participated in the drafting meeting from 15–16 June 2026 on behalf of Prof Thokozani Majozi, President of ASSAf, representing the Academy of Science of South Africa on this critical global agenda.
