Walk together. Run together. Laugh together. Get colourful together! Let every kilometre remind us that we are stronger when we move as one community, supporting one another, celebrating one another and standing together against bullying and drugs.

Please follow all route instructions from our marshals and officials stationed along the route.

For everyone's safety:
• Stay on the designated route.
• Walk/run together where possible.
• Obey marshals at all intersections.
• Keep hydrated and look out for fellow participants.

Learners are encouraged to dress warmly, attend school where it is safe to travel, and exercise extra caution on wet and slippery roads.

A cold and wet start to the week is expected in Mamelodi, with light rain and very cold conditions forecast for Tuesday, 11 August 2026, followed by cold mornings throughout the week.

Parents and guardians are kindly requested to ensure that learners dress warmly underneath their school uniform and wear appropriate layers to stay comfortable during the school day.

Ribane-Laka Maths, Science & ICT School of Specialisation was proud to have our young women represented at the University of Pretoria’s 8th Women in Science Symposium, hosted under the theme:

“From Vision to Impact: Her Science, Her Future – Building South Africa’s STEM Leaders.”

The experience gave our learners an opportunity to engage with a world beyond the classroom — a world of science, technology, research, innovation and possibility. They joined researchers, students, policymakers and industry leaders in conversations aimed at building a more inclusive future for women in STEM.

The occasion also formed part of an important moment as the University of Pretoria launched its first Girls in STEM programme, joined by Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Nomalungelo Gina, with a focus on inspiring the next generation of women in STEM.

One message from UP Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof Francis Petersen particularly resonated with us: progress begins with the courage to ask “What if?” and “Why not?”.

At Ribane-Laka, these are exactly the questions we want our girls to keep asking.

As a Maths, Science & ICT School of Specialisation with a focus on Automotive and Electronics, our responsibility extends beyond teaching subjects. We want our learners to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, technologists, researchers, innovators and leaders.

To our girls: be curious, ask bold questions, occupy spaces of innovation and never limit where your knowledge can take you. 💛💙

Thank you to the University of Pretoria for creating spaces where young women can see, experience and believe in the possibilities that STEM offers.
