A huge thank you to Autism Western Cape for a wonderfully whimsical Ladies’ Tea! Our table went full Mad Hatter, complete with fabulous hats, curious characters and a little bit of Wonderland magic. 🐇🍰🎩

A very special thank you to Nicolette Wendy Ripepi and Autism Connect for joining us, as well as Edu-Play Group. And a big thank you to Real Crystal Birch for the incredible hats that helped bring our Mad Hatter vision to life! We certainly had the most curious table at the tea! 😉🎩

Thank you for a beautiful afternoon of connection, laughter, tea and a little bit of delightful madness.

PARENT SEMINAR
ENABLING VS EMPOWERING

Supporting Independence Without Removing Support

Are we helping… or holding them back?

Many autistic children rely on adult support—but sometimes the way we help can unintentionally limit independence.

In this practical and reflective session, we will explore:

• The difference between helping and over-helping
• How boundaries support regulation and growth
• Why behaviour isn’t always “on purpose”
• How to respond to dysregulation without reinforcing avoidance
• Simple ways to build independence in everyday moments

A New Way to Think About Support

Learn how to:

• Hold clear, calm boundaries
• Support regulation without removing expectations
• Help your child return to tasks—even after distress
• Build confidence through small, achievable steps

Perfect for Parents Who Want To:

• Reduce daily struggles and power battles
• Support their child’s independence
• Feel more confident in difficult moments
• Better understand behaviour and regulation

The International Association for Spelling as Communication is a global organisation of individuals from the nonspeaking and neurodivergent community. We seek to make spelling and the relevant supports accessible to every person who is unable to use speech as a reliable means of communication, regardless of geography, age, socio-economic or educational status.

Walk 5 kilometres to show your support for the Race For Communication and pledge R100 to I-ASC. The funds will go towards providing access to communication for nonspeakers.

To join the movement and help nonspeakers gain access to communication, click the link below to pledge.

April marks the start of Autism Month globally. It's a hard month for many autistic people, as the focus tends to move away from the autistic person. We have been advocating for awareness for many years, many people are aware. But, are we truly accepting? This month, let's accept autistic people for who they are. Let's accept our nonspeakers choice in communiction and allow them access to their communication choice. After all, communication is a human right!

Over the last two days, our team of practitioners and our spellers attended the very first S2C Africa summit! And what an experience. With over 300 people attending, around 65 nonspeakers and 37 practitioners - including from Namibia.

Our spellers took centre stage throughout the summit; whether they were presenting on a panel or sharing their thoughts, insights and opinions through their CRPs and presentations, or literally being on stage with the presenters. It was a space of acceptance, love, courage and immense joy!

Thank you to EV and to I-ASC, as well as the team behind the scenes who have worked so hard to make this happen! We’re ready to tackle the rest of South Africa and Africa!

We’re very exited to be a part of the first S2C Africa Summit!

✨ The first-ever S2C Africa Summit is almost here! ✨

We at The Sisu Hub are so incredibly proud to be part of this important event. Even more special — members of our team and some of our nonspeakers will be taking part. 💛

To see voices that were once doubted now being centred, heard, and respected on a summit stage is something we don’t take lightly. This is what access, belief, and presuming competence looks like in action.

If you haven’t booked your ticket yet, now is the time. Come be part of a community committed to communication, autonomy, and real inclusion.

You can book your tickets here: https://i-asc.org/s2c-summit-africa/

We would love to see you there.
