๐ The University of Pretoria Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences(EMS) has once again demonstrated its accounting excellence in the latest 2026 SSAICA - The South African Institute of Chartered AccountantsInitial Assessment of Competency results released recently. UUniversity of Pretoria(UP) candidates who sat for this professional exam achieved a stellar pass rate of 96%.
Prof Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, Dean of the Faculty of EMS, remarked on our performance: โA 96% pass rate is a testament not only to academic excellence, but also to our ongoing commitment to transformation and inclusion within the accountancy profession.
We are particularly encouraged by the continued success and growth of our diverse student cohort, as we work to expand access and create opportunities for future chartered accountants from all backgrounds. These results demonstrate that excellence and transformation can, and must, go hand in hand.โ

What do you do when your single is climbing the charts and its Test Week at the University of Pretoria? You do both. ๐
Our very own EMS student, Ruvรฉ Erasmus, who forms part of the singing duo 'ONS', was interviewed on 'Die Groot Ontbyt' last week, where she spoke about balancing life as a final-year BCom Business Management student while building a music career.
From studying backstage before performances to writing tests between shows, her story is a reminder that our students are more than just students - they are entrepreneurs, artists, athletes, leaders, and dreamers. And somehow, they still show up and write the test.
Her advice during this busy mid-semester season:

The University of Pretoria Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences recently had the privilege to host senior leaders from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) as part of the 2nd IIA Global Tour of South African Universities.
This delegation included Anthony Pugliese, CEO and President of IIA Global, Laura LeBlanc from the Internal Audit Foundation, and Arlene-Lynn Volmink, CEO of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa.
Over 600 students engaged with these leaders in the field of internal auditing, gaining valuable insights into how the profession is evolving globally. The session ended on an inspiring note with alumni from UPโs internal auditing programme sharing their career journeys and reflecting on how their honours year helped build the confidence and professional skills that prepared them for the workplace.

At a special event hosted by the Dean, Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, on 24 February, these exceptional students were recognised for their outstanding academic achievements and officially welcomed into the EMS community.
For these students, EMS represents more than just a qualification โ it is a gateway to opportunity. With programmes in accounting, economics, management, and related disciplines, EMS equips graduates with the skills, ethical foundation, and global perspective needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Congratulations to Dr Corlia Joynt, Dr Dawie Bornman, and Dr Sean Kruger, who recently received UP Teaching and Learning Laureate Awards.
Dr Joynt was recognised for sustained, evidence-based teaching excellence grounded in innovative, research-informed pedagogy that transforms students from passive recipients into active co-constructors of knowledge through dialogic, hybrid, and AI-enhanced learning designs. Dr Kruger and Dr Bornman were jointly awarded for their work in the redesign and delivery of OBS 211 Design and Innovation, where they embedded innovation practice through full-phase technology-enabled prototyping as an entrepreneurship pathway.
