The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of Pretoria is the first faculty of its kind in Africa to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The Faculty aims to continuously strengthen its position as the leading institution in the fields of economic, financial and management sciences through its academic and research excellence. 🏆Historic Win for EMS!🏆

A hearty congratulations to Dr Corlia Joynt of the Department of Accounting on being named one of only six winners of the 2026 National University Teaching Awards (NUTA). These awards recognise innovative teaching and learning in higher education at a national level.

This achievement marks a historic milestone, as Dr Joynt is the 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗨𝗧𝗔 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 from the University of Pretoria. For Dr Joynt, the recognition ultimately comes back to the students at the heart of her work:

“This award may carry my name, but its meaning belongs to my students. Their resilience, perseverance, and willingness to keep going remind me every day why teaching matters,” she says.

Celebrating Excellence 👏👏👏

The University of Pretoria Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences recently celebrated its outstanding academic staff for their achievements during the 2025 academic year at the annual EMS Awards.

These awards recognise academics who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and learning, research, and media engagement, reflecting their unwavering commitment to advancing knowledge and enriching the student experience.

The gap between a degree and a career is where the real work happens. To bridge that gap, the University of Pretoria Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences and its Faculty house, Commercii, recently hosted a Youth Employability panel discussion that unpacked how young people can better position themselves for success in the world of work.

🏆 The University of Pretoria Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences(EMS) has once again demonstrated its accounting excellence in the latest 2026 SSAICA - The South African Institute of Chartered AccountantsInitial Assessment of Competency results released recently. UUniversity of Pretoria(UP) candidates who sat for this professional exam achieved a stellar pass rate of 96%.

Prof Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, Dean of the Faculty of EMS, remarked on our performance: “A 96% pass rate is a testament not only to academic excellence, but also to our ongoing commitment to transformation and inclusion within the accountancy profession.
We are particularly encouraged by the continued success and growth of our diverse student cohort, as we work to expand access and create opportunities for future chartered accountants from all backgrounds. These results demonstrate that excellence and transformation can, and must, go hand in hand.”

We are proud of the six UP candidates who are part of the prestigious honours roll for exceptional performance, including two who are in the National Top 10. The candidates on the honours roll are:
