World Skills Competition (Durban, 15–19 September 2025)
Three Chemistry students from the Department of Chemistry, TUT — Dhlamini Shinah, Nkoko Relebogile, and Rachoshi Refilwe — competed in the Chemical Laboratory Technology category at the World Skills Competition. This category was hosted for the first time in South Africa, positioning TUT as a pioneer in Gauteng. They were accompanied by Dr. Hlongwane, Lecturer and WIL Coordinator, who served as the Provincial Expert.

Due to limited competitors in Gauteng, the category was jointly hosted with KwaZulu-Natal at DUT. Results for Gauteng will be announced at the provincial competitions, with WSZA planning to host future heats in each province.

World Skills Competitions provide young people with a platform to showcase technical skills, progressing from local and provincial heats to national and international stages. Winners at national level represent South Africa internationally, where over 72 countries compete. South Africa has participated in World Skills International since 1990 and formally established WSZA in 2013. The competition is seen as an important driver for youth skills development and employability.

Congratulations to Dhlamini Shinah, Nkoko Relebogile, and Rachoshi Refilwe on this outstanding achievement! We’re excited about the opportunity to enter even more students in future competitions.
