The Southern African Association of Geomorphologists (SAAG) is the representative body of Geomorphologists in Southern Africa

Southern African Association of Geomorphologists (SAAG) is the representative body of Southern African Geomorphologists and is affiliated to the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG). The current president of SAAG is David Hedding of the University of South Africa. The previous president was Jay le Roux of the University of the Free State. The incoming president is Christel Hansen, of Rhodes University / University of Pretoria.

SAAG Member Publication Spotlight!

We are pleased to highlight a recent publication by a SAAG member Edmore Kori from the University of Venda, together with C. Schoorl and A.C. Seijmonsbergen from University of Amsterdam.

Their article, titled “Application of geomorphons for geomorphological mapping of the Soutpansberg mountain range, South Africa”, has been published in the Journal of African Earth Sciences.

The South African Association of Geomorphologists (SAAG) extends its congratulations to Prof Jasper Knight, a valued SAAG member and professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, on his election as one of the Vice Presidents of the International Association of Geomorphologists Executive Committee for the 2026–2030 term.

This is a significant achievement and a testament to his outstanding contribution to the field of geomorphology. It is also encouraging to see strong representation from South Africa at this international level.

We wish him every success in this important role.
