The CLLA (Alumni) page addresses the professional progress made by the alumni of the Carnegie Library Leadership Academy that addressed the library leadership development needs within the South African Library and Information Services (LIS) sector The CALL addressed the library leadership development needs within the South African Library and Information Services (LIS) sector through training and development programmes. Over a period of three years (between July 2009 and April 2012) the Centre for African Library Leadership, now known as the Carnegie Centre for Library Leadership and Training, successfully facilitated the following programmes:
--Six 2-week residential Library Leadership Academies resulting in a cadre of well-trained emerging library leaders. Participants included 70 academic librarians and 50 librarians from public and community libraries including the National Library of South Africa.
-- A Personal Leadership Building Block series offered to the Academy participants as one-day Pre-Conference Workshops (40 participants per workshop) at the Annual LIASA Conferences in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
--Three Train-the-Trainer Programmes offered to 30 Academy alumni (19 academic librarians and 11 public librarians) in July 2010, July 2011 and April 2012. The objectives were to create an awareness of what effective training and facilitation entails, to understand "situational appropriate" training and facilitation techniques, to develop key training and facilitation skills, delivery styles and to share tips for successful training and facilitation.

Colleagues have you been bitten by the "good wool" bug as yet? If not please visit the Knitting Librarians (Group) and find out about the IFLA 2015 project. Become part of a national phenomenon that has captured the attention and creativity of thousands of ordinary South Africans, the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Campaign! As librarians we can join and make a huge contribution. So the challenge is on...

All library teams are challenged to knit or crochet a blanket or two, and bring it along or send to the IFLA 2015 Congress in Cape Town! All contributions will be handed over to the 67 Blankets Project, which will have a stand at the Congress. For this to be successful, we need to do the following:
1. Set a target for 67 blankets
2. Identify a co-ordinator in each branch (pls send me names)
3. Start a project amongst staff, family & friends
4. Join & post pictures of your efforts on the Knitting Librarians (Group)

I know we can do this!

One of the tools we can use to articulate the worth of our libraries is the elevator pitch. This can be a powerful tool to make a quick and memorable point.
