Kleine Krummels bied maandeliks ’n kookklas aan by Lil'Wild Baba en Kleuter Kampus as deel van die kleuterskool se kurrikulum — in plek van gewone “bak en brou”. Hier word kinders regtig geleer en kry hulle waardevolle, praktiese vaardighede.

Die plan was om die kinders te leer hoe om roomys te maak, maar die weer hier in Pretoria het anders besluit, en toe bak ons heerlike pannekoek.

Ons begin elke klas deur die kinders meer te leer oor die kombuisapparaat wat gebruik word, asook die bestanddele waarmee ons werk.

Kinders weet gewoonlik nie waar bestanddele vandaan kom nie. Dis juis waar "Little Farmers" inkom. Die skooltjie het sy eie klein groentetuin, en daarom gebruik ons vars bestanddele direk uit die tuin.

Die hele idee is natuurlik om kinders aan te moedig om alles te proe en te eet, terwyl hulle terselfdertyd leer waar kos vandaan kom en hoe dit voorberei word.

En die pannekoek? Dit was natuurlik ’n groot wenner! 🥞






www.kleinekrummels.co.za offers a monthly cooking class at Lil'Wild Baba en Kleuter Kampus as part of the preschool curriculum — replacing ordinary “baking and mixing” with meaningful learning experiences. Here, children are taught real skills in a fun and practical way.

The plan was to teach the children how to make ice cream, but the weather in Pretoria had other plans, so we made delicious pancakes instead.

We start each class by teaching the children about the kitchen equipment we use, as well as the ingredients we work with.

Children usually do not know where ingredients come from. That is where Little Farmers comes in. The school has its own small vegetable garden, so we use fresh ingredients straight from the garden.

The whole idea is to encourage children to taste and enjoy a variety of foods, while also learning where food comes from and how it is prepared.

And the pancakes? They were definitely a winner! 🥞

The reason why we started Kleine Krummels is exactly what the Minister of Health in the USA is addressing in this speech.

It is even more shocking to realize that there are homes where people don’t even have basic cooking utensils to prepare food.

The heart of Kleine Krummels is to teach children from as young as 2 years old how to cook and prepare food. When children learn these life skills early, it empowers them for the rest of their lives.

Across the world we are seeing shocking statistics about nutrition, food knowledge, and children’s health. One of the biggest problems today is not only access to food, but also the loss of basic cooking skills in families. When people don’t know how to cook, healthy eating becomes much more difficult.

Please take a few minutes to listen to this important speech by the Minister of Health.

On Friday, our little friends at Lil'Wild Baba en Kleuter Kampus made delicious, fresh pesto. The basil was picked from the school’s own vegetable and herb garden. The aroma of the fresh basil was just amazing. Each child took some pesto home to enjoy with Mom and Dad. The children absolutely love these classes and gain valuable life skills while having fun.

Krummelkabouters takes place once a month on a Friday and is included in the school fees.
