: The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria recently welcomed its postgraduate students at the 2026 Postgraduate Welcome Day, bringing together students, academic staff and professional support staff for a day of engagement, learning and connection at one of Africa’s leading law schools.

In his opening address, Prof Steve Cornelius, Dean of , highlighted the Faculty’s position as one of Africa’s leading law schools. He emphasised that the Faculty not only provides an outstanding legal education but also plays a vital role in advancing legal scholarship through research, supported by one of the highest concentrations of NRF-rated researchers in South Africa.

Acting Deputy Dean and Chair of Postgraduate Studies, Prof Joel Modiri, provided an overview of the Faculty and the postgraduate experience. Students also gained valuable insights from Heads of Department, Student Administration, the Research Ethics Committee, the Academic Success Coach and the OR Tambo Law Library Manager, who introduced the extensive academic resources, research support and services available to postgraduate students.

A particularly inspiring highlight of the programme was a presentation by a current postgraduate student, who shared her academic journey and experiences within the Faculty. Her reflections offered practical guidance, encouragement and reassurance to fellow postgraduate students.

The programme further featured an interactive quiz and networking activities at the Javett Art Centre, providing opportunities for engagement, collaboration and meaningful connections among students and staff.

UP Law remains dedicated to fostering an environment in which postgraduate students can thrive as scholars, researchers and future leaders in the legal profession. We look forward to supporting them throughout the remainder of the academic year and celebrating their achievements along the way.

: Your donation can change a life

On 14 June 2026, Ms Audrey Lenoge, Manager of the OR Tambo Law Library in the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria, will take on her 12th Comrades Marathon in support of UP's Degrees Delivered campaign.

While every Comrades runner has a finish line in sight, Ms Lenoge is running for something far greater than a medal. She is running to help graduates who have successfully completed their studies but are unable to access their degree certificates because of outstanding historical debt. Every kilometre she runs represents an opportunity restored, a door reopened and a future unlocked.

Your donation will help deserving graduates access their qualifications, pursue employment opportunities, register with professional bodies and continue their studies. More importantly, it will help restore the dignity that comes with receiving a degree that has already been earned.

"They finished the work. Now we deliver their degree."

Join us in supporting Ms Lenoge's journey and help us turn determination into opportunity, and kilometres into futures.
