Unpopular opinion on research gaps
If we truly want to solve African societal problems
We must stop hunting for “research gaps” only in academic papers.
Most real gaps are not in journals.
They are in
Communities
Institutions
Industries
And broken systems.
Literature should support the problem — not create it.
Life is where Africa’s real research gaps live.
And that life is all around you.

On 28 November, we made our second official outing at Science Forum South Africa ( ), and it was truly inspiring.
We didn’t just run a workshop.
We showcased a working example of African collaboration through our growing partnership with the University of Zimbabwe.
Together, we are building a new model of research support:
shared systems, joint supervision, structured coaching, and capability development that crosses borders.
Our session under the subtheme:
BUILDING RESEARCH CAPABILITIES FOR AFRICA (STISA 2024)
allowed us to introduce the R-IMPACT™ Coaching Model and unpack the challenges that many postgraduate students face: confusion, pressure, isolation, and lack of consistent support.
The engagements were honest, reflective, and transformative.
