I want to encourage you to do everything through movement, as a first step, only then move to concrete objects and lastly to paper activities (or worksheets).

Paper seems to be the easiest way to assess as well as keep track of a learners work and progress. BUT new concepts can not be taught on paper!

DO NOT fall into the "paper trap" and buy loads of workbooks. Rather buy some rope, balls, counters and blocks.

Patterns forms a big part of the foundation of our language and math development. You can create these patters with objects in and around the house.

Remember to ask the child to create his/her own patterns as well.

Use numbered blocks and cards in this learning activity. Now the child match the number on the block to the number on the card.

Playing in sand is a wonderful activity for our preschoolers. The rest of the foundation phase can't stay away either. We learn about construction, measuring, weight and social skills. We have to plan ahead.

This is true, not only for the preschool years, but for the rest of the foundation phase as well.
