This 6th Umalusi Council was established on 8 June 2022 upon the appointment by the Minister of Basic Education in terms of the General and Further Education and Training Quality Assurance (GENFETQA) Act, (No. 58 of 2001), as amended.

Dr Matsie Mohale and Dr Mbalenhle Ngema, represented Umalusi at the National Workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teacher Education, hosted by DHET and the Commonwealth of Learning, in Pretoria, today.

This national workshop is convened as a contractual deliverable under the DHET–COL Contribution Agreement to:

• Mobilise key stakeholders across the teacher education system.
• Facilitate engagement on the integration of AI in teacher education.
• Strengthen national capacity on AI literacy and digital transformation.
• Generate evidence-based recommendations to inform policy implementation

Dr Ngema presented as part of the panel on the implications of AI use for education standards focusing on assessment. She focused on what Umalusi is currently doing in relations to AI and assessment.

The only way to get a certificate is by successfully completing a qualification at a registered school or institution of higher learning.
