AT THE END OF THE DAY (4 DEC 2025)

Balaam and His Talking Donkey (Numbers 22:21–39)

Balaam was a prophet who was asked by King Balak to come and curse the people of Israel. Although God told Balaam not to curse them, Balaam still set out on his journey—riding on his donkey—because he wanted the rewards Balak promised.

As Balaam traveled, something unexpected happened. The angel of the Lord stood in the road with a drawn sword, but only the donkey could see it.

First Sign

The donkey saw the angel blocking the path, so she turned into a field. Balaam, frustrated, hit the donkey to force her back onto the road.

Second Sign

Again the angel appeared, this time in a narrow pathway between vineyards. The donkey pressed against the wall to avoid the angel and crushed Balaam’s foot. Angry again, Balaam struck her.

Third Sign

The angel appeared once more in a place so narrow the donkey couldn’t turn. She lay down under Balaam, and he beat her even harder.

The Donkey Speaks

Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth.

She said,
“What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?”

Balaam shouted in anger, but the donkey reminded him:
“Am I not your donkey, which you have ridden all your life? Have I ever behaved like this before?”
Balaam admitted she hadn’t.

At that moment, God opened Balaam’s eyes. He finally saw the angel standing in the road, sword drawn. The angel told Balaam that the donkey had saved his life.

Humbled and shaken, Balaam agreed only to speak the words that God would give him.

Life Lesson: Don’t Let Pride Blind You

📣This story teaches a powerful truth:

⭐ Sometimes we become so focused on what we want—money, praise, success—that we ignore warnings meant to protect us.

Balaam was so determined to get the reward King Balak promised that he ignored God’s guidance and even mistreated the donkey who was trying to save him.

⭐ Humility lets us see what anger and pride hide.

Balaam’s anger blinded him to the real danger. When we are frustrated or stubborn, we often miss the signs God—or life—is putting in front of us.

⭐ Listen to unexpected voices.

Help and wisdom can come from surprising places. Just as Balaam’s donkey became the voice of reason, sometimes the people we overlook (or even situations that annoy us) carry important messages.
