To the parent who feels like progress is too slow:
Slow progress is not weak progress. It is often the strongest kind.
When a learner moves forward slowly, it usually means they are truly understanding β not just memorising. It means the foundation is solid.
Quick progress without understanding is like a house built on sand. It looks good until the first obstacle, then the cracks in the foundation show.
The learners who have taken the longest to understand are often the ones with the strongest foundation.
Be patient. The growth is happening β even if you don't see it yet. π

Aan die ouer wat voel asof die vordering te stadig is:
Stadige vordering is nie swak vordering nie. Dit is dikwels die sterkste soort.
Wanneer 'n leerder stadig vooruit beweeg, beteken dit gewoonlik dat hy of sy werklik verstaan β nie net memoriseer nie. Dit beteken die fondasie word stewig gebou.
Snel vordering sonder begrip is soos 'n huis op sand. Dit lyk goed tot die eerste struikelblok die krake in die fondasie wys.
Die leerders wat die langste geneem het om te verstaan, is dikwels diΓ© wat die sterkste fondasie het, wanneer dit uiteindelik ingesink het.
Wees geduldig. Die groei gebeur β ook al sien jy dit nog nie. π

Dit het laas Maandag begin met 'n vraag.
'n Tutor β iemand wat kinders leer β het my gevra hoe sy 'n konsep dieper kan verstaan. Nie vir punte. Vir begrip.
Oor die week het sy ontdek dat begrip nie uit formules kom nie. Dit kom uit stap 0. Uit praktiese voorbeelde. Uit die bereidwilligheid om dieper te vra.
En toe het die Heilige Gees gewerk.
Voor die einde van die week, het sy verstaan. π
"Is die Heilige Gees nie βawesomeβ nie?!"
Ja. Hy is. π

Hoe weet jy of jou kind werklik vordering maak?
Hierdie tekens is nie genoeg nie:
net die punte na toetse,
huiswerk wat gedoen is,
βn leerder wat stil en gehoorsaam is.
Punte sΓͺ jou wat gebeur het.
Hulle sΓͺ nie vir jou of die leerder die gereedskap het om aan te hou groei nie.
DΓt is duursame vordering:
Die leerder kan iets in sy eie woorde verduidelik.
Die leerder probeer 'n nuwe vraag vra sonder om op te gee.
Die leerder vra beter vrae as verlede maand.
Dit is die vordering wat bly. π

How do you know if your child is really making progress?
These signs are not enough:
just marks after tests,
homework completed,
a learner being quiet and obedient.
Marks tell you what happened.
They don't tell you whether the learner has the tools to keep growing.
This is durable progress:
The learner can explain something in their own words.
The learner attempts a new question without giving up.
The learner asks better questions than last month.
This is the progress that lasts. π
