PJ's thoughts on correlations between learning the English language and "happiness".
I believe in a holostic approach when it comes to teaching my students. In collaboration with my students we incorporate various psychological and sosial aspects pertaining to "life". By exploring different perspectives and expierences we learn from each other and enrich our lifes. These lessons are balanced with lessons that have a more practical approach, such lessons will include vocabulary, pronounciation, reading and comprenension exercises. Human beings are constantly learning or seeking happiness. Happiness and learning means something different to each person. There are however certain basic principles that has been put into words by numerous authors.
There is no simple solution to learning or an answer to being happy, I am simple merely putting forward some ideas that could be helpful in improving the quality of of our lives and that will be helpful in learning the English language.
"The happiness in your life depends on the quality of your thoughts" (Author unknown).
Learning the English language and building brick by brick a meaningful life.
Everyday matters. We should use every day as a brick or foundation with which or upon which we build our future or for that matter learn the English language. Our lives and our learning consist of a number of days put together which basically forms our "memory banks" or points of reference. Concentrate on the present day at hand, do your utmost best with today and the future will look after itself.
Learning or happiness strangely enough, is often the result of hard work or overcoming obstacles that seemed over overwhelming. This statement seems to be a paradox in itself, we often shy away from hard work and obstacles that could overwhelm us and yet it is exactly what we need in order to keep "moving" and grow as human beings.
"Wisdom is to know that rest is rust and that real life is in love, laughter and work" (Elbert Hubbard)
The fact that you are learning a new language tells me that you want to explore and that you want to reap the rewards of putting in some hard work. The rewards of learning a new language are immense in that it opens up a whole new world of possibilities, consequently meeting new friends, understanding different cultures, being able to study and understand the wisdom and perspectives of others from another cultural or languaguage group etc. I plan to enable you to head into a bright future exploring new horzons with conviction and enthusiasm. It is not where you start off, but what really matters is where you end up. A Yourney starts with taking the first step.
Learning the English language and leading a fulfilling life is possible. In the lifetime of every person there is different seasons, fortunately or unfortunately. I will argue fortuately!. How would you recognise spring if you haven't survived winter, how would you recognise happiness if you haven't felt sorrow. John Burroughs describes in one of his essays that we should never stagnate but rather keep moving like a river and greet each day with an open mind as to the opportunities it presents.
"the grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love and something to hope for" (Joseph Addison")
Some Practical steps you can take to achieve your goals
Physical exercise, sleeping 6 to 8 hours per night, eating healthy and having gratitude while aiming for your goals with purpose and intend is a great start. In my case I love breaking out of routines, this is sometimes necessary, however following a routine with dissipline eventually leads to unimaginable success. Set your own routine and follow it diligently and remember LOVE, LAUGHTER and HOPE.
