Congratulations to Dr Moleboheng Mokhele, senior lecturer and researcher in NWU's Research Unit for Self-Directed Learning, on being named a semi-finalist in the Public Service category of the TransUnion Rising Star Awards South Africa.

This well-deserved recognition celebrates her outstanding contribution to early childhood STEM education through research, innovation and community engagement.

Learning doesn’t only happen in a classroom, sometimes it happens on a tennis court. 🎾💜

At the North-West University, young players gained more than tennis skills at the Rainbow Kidz Tournament. They built confidence, sharpened problem-solving abilities, and discovered the joy of learning through play.

The event also highlighted how NWU research creates real-world impact. Dr. Moleboheng Mokhele’s educational game, Renewable Rangers, invites children to explore STEM concepts in creative, engaging ways demonstrating how education, innovation and sport can work together to inspire the next generation.

This is community impact. Creating opportunities that empower young people, strengthen communities and support a more sustainable future.
