Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that influences how a person communicates, interacts with others, processes sensory information, and experiences the world.

It is called a spectrum because autism presents differently in every individual. No two autistic people are the same.

In simple terms, autism is not a single condition. It includes a wide range of strengths, challenges, abilities, and support needs.

Common areas autism may affect:

*Communication – verbal, non-verbal, or alternative forms of communication
*Social interaction – understanding social cues, relationships, and boundaries
*Sensory processing – sensitivity to sound, light, touch, textures, or smells
*Behavior and interests – preference for routines, repetition, or intense interests
*Emotional regulation – difficulty managing or expressing emotions, meltdowns, or shutdowns

What “on the spectrum” means:

• Some individuals are non-verbal, while others are highly verbal
• Some require significant daily support, while others require minimal support
• Some may face social challenges but excel academically, creatively, or technically
• Some have co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, epilepsy, or learning differences

Important facts:

Autism is not a disease and is not caused by parenting or environment.
It is a lifelong neurological difference present from birth.

Effective support is individualized, focused on the person’s unique needs, strengths, and experiences, not just the diagnosis.

Awareness leads to understanding.
Understanding leads to acceptance.
Acceptance leads to inclusion.

This programme is designed to help autistic adults (18+) build practical work-related skills, gain hands-on job experience, and develop confidence for entering or sustaining employment.
