In Loving Memory of
Brian Wing Elliot
First Dive: 23 May 1947
Final Touch: 17 September 2026
Brian Wing Elliot lived a life filled with love, family, friendship and a deep passion for swimming.
A highly accomplished swimmer in his own right, Brian had the honour of representing South Africa and held South African swimming records during his competitive career. The pool was a place where he excelled, but his contribution to the sport extended far beyond his own achievements.
As the much-loved Coach, Brian went on to share his knowledge and passion with generations of swimmers, inspiring, encouraging and shaping the lives of so many others. From the starting blocks, he taught those around him to keep going, believe in themselves and always give their very best. The lessons Coach taught reached far beyond the swimming pool and stayed with those fortunate enough to have been coached by him.
But for all Brian achieved in the water and all the people Coach inspired, above everything else came his family.
To those closest to him, he was Brian and Papa, a man whose kindness, generosity and instinct to put others before himself defined who he was. He was highly regarded by so many for the way he treated people, but nowhere was his devotion more evident than with his family. They always came first. Their happiness, wellbeing and lives mattered deeply to him, and he gave his love, time and support without hesitation.
Today, we say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, Papa, great-grandfather, brother, Coach and friend. While Brian may have taken his final stroke and reached the wall for the last time, the lessons Coach taught, the lives he touched and the love Papa gave will continue to ripple through generations.
Brian is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, one son, two daughters, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as two brothers, one sister and his beloved fur baby.
His greatest legacy cannot be measured in the records he held, the races he swam, the medals he won or the swimmers he coached. It lives in the people Coach inspired, the kindness Brian showed so freely and, above all, in the family Papa loved and always put first.
Rest peacefully, Brian.
The race may be over, Coach, but the ripples you created will never disappear.
