CHILD PROTECTION WEEK 🤚

To honor Child Protection Week, on the 10th of June, we had the privilege of welcoming Colonel Raquel Paulsen and Constable Laverne Butler and to Merryvale Special School, where they presented an informative and engaging talk to our Senior and Occupational Phase learners.

The officers addressed important topics including bullying, consent, and social media safety, providing valuable information and practical advice to help our learners make safe and responsible choices.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the officers for taking the time to visit our school and for sharing their knowledge and experience with our learners. A special thank you as well for the generous goodies that were distributed to both learners and staff – your kindness was greatly appreciated by all.

Partnerships such as these play an important role in educating and empowering our learners, and we are truly grateful for your support.

Thank you for making a positive impact at Merryvale Special School!

Youth Day 2026 🖍️🛝💛

Today marks 50 years since the historic 1976 Soweto Uprising, where thousands of brave young people stood up against injustice and fought for their right to quality education.

As we honour their courage and sacrifice, we also celebrate the strength, resilience, and potential of today's youth.

May we always be reminded of the importance of youth empowerment, access to education and employment, and the mental health of our nation’s children.

To our youth, today is about you. Keep dreaming boldly, lifting others, and shaping a brighter future✨

Today we celebrate a very special woman, Pamela Jooste-Mei, as she retires after 35 years of dedicated service to Merryvale School.

For more than three decades, Pamela has been a familiar and cherished presence in the lives of so many learners, families, and staff members. Whether serving in the hostel or as a valued member of the school staff, she carried out every role with dedication, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those around her.

Pamela's warm smile, friendly nature, and hardworking spirit have touched countless lives over the years. She has always been willing to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, and go the extra mile to ensure that others felt cared for and supported. Her positivity and genuine love for the Merryvale community will be remembered long after her final day.

Thirty-five years of service is an extraordinary achievement, and it speaks volumes about the loyalty and dedication that Pamela has shown throughout her career. She has left an indelible mark on our school and on the hearts of all who have had the privilege of working alongside her.

As you begin this new chapter, Pamela, we wish you many years filled with happiness, good health, laughter, relaxation, and precious moments with family and friends. May retirement bring you all the joy you so richly deserve.

Thank you for your years of service, your caring heart, and the difference you have made in so many lives.

Sylvie was an extraordinary woman whose presence touched the lives of so many. Although her role was class assistant, she was so much more than that. She was a source of comfort, kindness, and unwavering support to every child and person fortunate enough to know her.

She had a humble spirit and a heart full of love. Even during her most difficult days, she never complained. She faced life's challenges with quiet strength, always showing up with grace, dedication, and a smile. She was deeply grateful for every opportunity and gave so much of herself to others without ever expecting anything in return.

Sylvie was loved by every child whose life she touched and respected by every person who had the privilege of working alongside her. Her compassion, selflessness, and gentle nature made her truly exceptional.

While our hearts are heavy with loss, we are grateful for the gift of having known her. Her legacy of kindness, love, and service will live on in all of us. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Rest in Peace, Sylvie ♥️🙏🏻
