Ten years ago, Khula Kids Playschool began with a simple conviction: if we want to see meaningful change in education, we need to start at the very beginning.

We need to invest in children. The Whole Child (Head, Heart and Hands)

I believed then, as I do now, that the earliest years matter profoundly. The foundations laid in childhood, shape confidence, resilience, curiosity, relationships, and a lifelong love of learning.

Khula was never simply about opening a school. It was about creating a place where children could be seen, heard, valued, and understood. A place where every child could discover their strengths, grow in confidence, and find their voice.

Because every child has a voice.

A voice that deserves to be heard.

A voice that deserves to be celebrated in its uniqueness.

Looking back over the last ten years, I am filled with gratitude. For every child who has walked through our gates, every family who has trusted us, and every educator who has carried this vision with passion and heart.

The work we do is not always easy, but it is deeply meaningful. What a privilege it is to spend our days helping children build the foundations upon which they will grow, learn, thrive, and become who they are meant to be.

Ten years later, my belief remains unchanged:
Strong foundations matter.
Children matter.
Early childhood matters.

To every family, educator and the team of ECD professionals we rely on, thank you for being part of the Khula Education story.

Lastly, this school is living proof that if you do what you love, you will always love what you do!

As we close off this school year, and eagerly anticipate the approach of our tenth birthday year in 2026, we feel it essential to clear up some confusion that has crept in and lingered over the past few months.

A new institution focussed on learners with very specific learning needs, trading under the umbrella banner of Khula Learning Centres, will be opening in Gqeberha in January 2026.

Given how similar the name is to that of our registered trade name, we understand and regret that substantial confusion has arisen.

To offer clarity to our families and community:

💚Our brand, Khula Education (Khula Kids Playschool) and that of Khula Learning Centres, operate entirely independently.

💚We share no trading or organisational links, and each institution offers a programme designed for different educational needs.

💚We remain the original Khula Education, established in 2016 and proudly rooted in Walmer. Our focus continues to be providing a high quality early-years education and development programme for children aged one to four who thrive in a typical early-childhood environment.

💚At the same time, we recognise that individual children may sometimes require additional support, which we are extremely committed to facilitating within our school which is proudly inclusive.

💚Our ethos of inclusivity for all learners means we work closely with a trusted network of specialised early-childhood professionals with whom we have built strong relationships over the years, as we endeavour to see every child thrive and grow even if they present with more specific needs.

As we move towards celebrating a decade of service and innovation in early education, our commitment remains unwavering:
to provide a nurturing and developmentally rich space where young children can grow with confidence, joy, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Finally, we wish Khula Learning Centres well as they begin their journey in Gqeberha. The very specialised scope of education they intend to offer is deeply needed in our city, and we are glad to see this important support becoming more available to families in Gqeberha.
