Well done to Sophie Stewart who participated in the RAD Advanced 1 bursary in Johannesburg yesterday. 🌷
The RAD Advanced 1 Bursary was held at Joburg Ballet in Braamfontein yesterday. Ten candidates participated in an open class taught by Michelle Naude with musical accompaniment by Marlene Watkins.
Following the class, candidates performed two solo variations - a neo-classical/contemporary on pointe and a classical repertoire.
Our esteemed judges, Thabani Ntuli and Joanne Bobrow awarded the bursary to Shiloh-Joy Godefroy from Kwa Zulu Natal and the runner-up was Scarlett Haslam from Johannesburg.
Congratulations to Shiloh and Scarlett. A sincere well done to all competitors who have come such a long way in their training and who danced beautifully yesterday. May each and everyone of them continue to prosper and bring joy and pride to the RAD and wider dance community.

2025 Winner ALICE REEKIE from the Walmer Ballet School shares her experience of competing in the Nationals at the Artscape Theatre.
"Competing at the SAIBC National competition in Cape Town was an unforgettable experience that spanned five incredible days. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment, from being surrounded by passionate dancers to performing on such a prestigious stage. One of the highlights for me was the exposure to talented international dancers, which was both inspiring and motivating. I also felt incredibly fortunate to be taught by world-renowned teachers, whose knowledge and guidance pushed me to grow not only as a dancer but as an artist. The gala performances were especially exciting, showcasing some of the strongest dancers of the competition and creating an electric atmosphere in the theatre. The awards ceremony was another memorable part of the experience, offering opportunities to receive scholarships and special recognition, which made it even more inspiring for young dancers. The entire experience was both challenging and rewarding, and it has left me even more determined to continue pursuing my dreams in ballet. "
