Research Excellence Recognized

Congratulations to Prof Gerrit Crafford and co-author Prof Liezel Frick on the selection of their article, "Reframing Student Engagement: A Systems Approach to Bridging Learner–Lecturer Dualities", for inclusion in the 50th Anniversary Issue of the prestigious journal Studies in Higher Education.

This special commemorative edition celebrates five decades of influential scholarship in higher education, and the inclusion of their work reflects the significance and impact of their research on student engagement and teaching and learning.

Bringing the world of robotics and automation to Gqeberha!

From 2–4 June 2026, the SAIMC Eastern Cape Branch, in collaboration with Nelson Mandela University’s School of Engineering, proudly hosted a local satellite viewing site for the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2026).

As the world's leading conference in robotics, automation, artificial intelligence and manufacturing, ICRA 2026 connected postgraduate students, academics and industry professionals in Gqeberha with global thought leaders and groundbreaking innovations taking place in Austria.

This collaboration between SAIMC, IEEE South Africa Section, the Advanced Mechatronic Technology Centre (AMTC), and Nelson Mandela University highlights a shared commitment to advancing engineering excellence, fostering international research integration, and strengthening the Eastern Cape's role in the future of robotics and automation.
