STATEMENT BY THE PAN AFRICANIST STUDENT MOVEMENT OF AZANIA (PASMA) ON THE SUCCESSFUL VEGETABLE PACKS DRIVE AT DYNAMIC RESIDENCES, CENTRAL

The Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania (PASMA) wishes to express its profound gratitude and revolutionary solidarity to all students, and comrades who participated in today’s historic Vegetable Packs Drive at the Dynamic Residences in Central.

This evening, our leadership and cadres distributed nutritious vegetable packs to students, directly addressing the immediate food insecurity that plagues our working class and student masses. This was not a charity event,it was an act of collective survival and a demonstration of the Pan Africanist principle of self-reliance. In the face of escalating living costs, unemployment, and the commodification of basic necessities, we refuse to stand idle.

Today’s drive was the first of many.

PASMA reaffirms its commitment to rolling out this initiative across all residences and surrounding communities in the weeks ahead. However, we are clear: a full stomach must be accompanied by a conscious mind. Therefore, every vegetable pack distributed henceforth will be paired with voter education and political consciousness materials.

We are entering a crucial electoral period. It is not enough to eat, we must know why we are hungry and who holds the power to change it. Our voter education component will not endorse any bourgeois party but will instead equip our people with the tools to interrogate candidates, understand land and economic justice, and reject the politics of empty promises. We will educate our communities on the history of Azania, the imperative of land expropriation, and the urgent need to dismantle neo-colonial economic structures.

Tomorrow on the 1st and 2nd of August, are the final days of voter registration. PASMA, together with PAC Ward 2, will be stationed at Cape Recife High School alongside other political parties.

As part of our programme, we will be distributing vegetables to community members and students who come to register to vote. We therefore kindly request all students to bring their ID's and student cards, to check if their registered to vote on the 4th of November.

Community members and students will receive vegetables packs if they are registered to vote and if not, we will assist you with registering then give you a vegetables pack.

STATEMENT OF THE PAN AFRICANIST STUDENT MOVEMENT OF AZANIA (PASMA) ON THE RE-EXAMINATION SCHEDULE

Date: 3 July 2026

The Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania (PASMA) has noted with grave concern the communication from university management regarding the postponement of re-examinations, now scheduled to commence on 8 July and run until 13 July 2026.

We unequivocally reject this timeline.

While we acknowledge the administrative challenges that necessitated the postponement, the proposed 8–13 July window is unacceptable and prejudicial to the academic and psychological welfare of affected students.

PASMA demands that re-examinations commence after five working days from the original date for the following reasons:

1. Students need sufficient time to secure funds for travel tickets to return from their homes to the university or residence.
2. Unfunded students need time to arrange for groceries and basic necessities to ensure they can write their re-examinations well, without the fear of going hungry after writing.

Furthermore, students received their re-examination results on 3 July and must be given adequate time to prepare. PASMA therefore demands that re-examinations commence on 13 July 2026, exactly one week from the date of this communication.

We call upon the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Teaching and Learning to do the right thing: postpone the re-examinations and allow a one-week preparation period, with the new start date being 13 July 2026.

STATEMENT BY THE PAN AFRICANIST STUDENT MOVEMENT OF AZANIA (PASMA) ON THE UNREASONABLE RE-EXAMINATION SCHEDULE

2 July 2026

The Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania (PASMA) views with grave concern the unreasonable timeline set for the release of final results and the commencement of the re-examination period.

The final results are scheduled for release on Friday, 3 July 2026, with the re-examination period set to begin on Monday, 6 July 2026. This gives students a mere two day weekend to make critical decisions and logistical arrangements. This timeline is not only insufficient but demonstrates a callous disregard for the material conditions of our students, particularly those who are unfunded.

On the Issue of Travel and Preparation:
The two day window between results and re-examinations is grossly insufficient. Students are expected to:

Firstly, confirm their re-examination status, arrange funds for travel to Port Elizabeth, and adequately prepare academically for the examination.

Given that these two days fall on a weekend, students are further handicapped by the unavailability of university administration to assist with urgent queries or logistical support. How can a student from a distant province, with no financial backing, be expected to make this journey and perform optimally in such a short space of time? This is an act of systemic exclusion.

On the issue of Unfunded Students, We reiterate that unfunded students cannot be left to guess whether they have re-examinations or not. Financial precarity should not be a barrier to academic progression. The university must have measures in place to ensure that these students are not further marginalised.

PASMA demands that the university immediately address this crisis by the end of business today, 2 July 2026, by implementing the following measures:

1. Adequate Preparation Time: The university must consider an extension of the re-examination period to allow students adequate time to prepare and travel. A two-day notice is unacceptable and violates the principles of fair assessment and social justice.

2. Communication and Clarity: All students must receive clear, direct communication regarding their re-examination status. The university cannot rely on students to "check" their status without ensuring that systems are accessible to all, especially those without consistent data or internet access.

We call on all students to remain vigilant and united in the face of these unreasonable conditions.

We understand the weight that this academic moment carries, not only for your individual futures but for the collective liberation and development of Azania and the African continent. The path of the student is the path of the warrior, and every test endured is a step toward the intellectual sovereignty of our people.

As you tackle these exams, we call upon you to remain steadfast, disciplined, and grounded in the spirit of resilience. Urgent Statement: Missing Student – Banele Dlulane

This notice concerns Banele Dlulane, a student from the department of Music at Nelson Mandela University. He was last seen on Tuesday, 26 May. Last site Nelson Mandela University Sport centre, wearing blue jeans and a red hoodie. The Cameras have seen him enter but never exited.

His family, friends, and the wider university community are extremely concerned for his safety and wellbeing. Every passing day deepens their worry.

An urgent appeal to all students:

If you have any information no matter how small or seemingly insignificant about Banele’s whereabouts or anyone who may have seen him since Tuesday, please come forward immediately. Here are the details to contact if you have information:

Do not assume someone else has already reported what you know. Your one piece of information could be the clue that brings Banele home safely.

You are hereby officially invited to attend the PAC Ward 1 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania.

This AGM carries historic organisational importance. In accordance with the directive of the National Executive Committee of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), our mother body, PASMA convenes this assembly to strengthen grassroots organisation and formally establish a functional PAC branch within Ward 1.

The AGM will undertake the following responsibilities:

~ Establish and officially launch the PAC Ward 1 Branch.
~ Elect the Branch Executive Committee (BEC) to lead the organisation at ward level.
~ Elect a Ward 1 Councillor Candidate.
~ Elect a Proportional Representation (PR) Councillor Candidate in preparation for local government representation.
~ Consolidate unity, political discipline, and organisational growth within the Pan Africanist movement.

RE: Urgent Call for Immediate Intervention on Flooded Off-Campus Student Residences Amid Severe Rainfall Warning

6 May 2026

The leadership of PASMA in Nelson Mandela University has received numerous urgent reports from students residing in off-campus accommodation experiencing severe room leakages following the ongoing heavy rainfall. Students indicate that this is not an isolated incident but a recurring problem, exposing a disturbing pattern where profit is prioritised over the lived conditions, safety, and dignity of students.

At a time when an official severe weather warning has been issued, it is unacceptable that students must endure flooded rooms, damaged belongings, and unsafe living environments.

We therefore call on all affected landlords and residence management to act with immediate urgency by:

• Relocating affected students to safe alternative accommodation without delay.
• Implementing emergency interventions to prevent further damage and risk to students.
• Providing clear communication and accountability to residents regarding remedial actions.

Student accommodation is not merely a business, it carries a duty of care. No student should be forced to study or live in conditions that threaten their safety and wellbeing.

PASMA will continue to monitor the situation closely and stands ready to escalate the matter to university management and relevant authorities should immediate corrective action not be taken.

The safety, dignity, and welfare of students remain non-negotiable.
