🗞️🏆 Eastern Cape Learners Crowned National Robotics Champions in Johannesburg.

Celebrations erupted in the Eastern Cape as learners from different schools in Gqeberha returned home victorious from the SpringBots SA National Robotics Competition, held on 16 June 2025 at the World of Yamaha Theatre in Sandton, Johannesburg.

A total of 12 learners from eight schools across the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro —including Paterson High, Linkside High, Uitenhage High, St Thomas Senior Secondary, St James Secondary, Lawson Brown, Chapman High and Gelvandale High—represented the Eastern Cape at this prestigious national event. They were grouped into three teams of four, showcasing their talent in coding, engineering, and robotics.

The Eastern Cape learners featured prominently as the winning team, TurboTronic, which clinched the National Championship title and formed part of the winning alliance alongside Gauteng’s Team Spark Plugs.

Another Eastern Cape team, CyberShow-X, was also recognised for its outstanding participation, winning both the Spirit of Ubuntu Award and the Social Media Award.

Their journey began at Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport with enthusiastic community support, and they returned as national champions—bringing immense pride to their schools, their city, and the Eastern Cape.

The achievement marks a major milestone for STEM education in the region, with community members, educators, and local officials celebrating the learners’ hard work, innovation, and teamwork.

The programme was guided by the dedicated Eastern Cape Springbots SA team: Mr Kenneth Prins (Champion), Mr Leroy Simon (IT Support), and mentors Ms Shirmonique Maaka and Mr Afikile Sikwebu.

Congratulations to all our participating learners—your success is a beacon of inspiration for future robotics stars in the Eastern Cape!
