A little water, plenty of thinking and a whole lot of teamwork. 💧

Our iGEMS learners put their problem-solving skills to the test in the Water Equilibrium Competition with SANRAL, Labco and GIBB.

The challenge? Build a network of pipes that distributes water equally between three collection points. Teams had to plan, build, test and adjust their designs so that each container received the same amount of water. It sounds simple, but getting that balance right takes careful thinking and collaboration.

The competition ended with a tie for both first and second place. Congratulations to our joint winners and runners-up, and well done to every learner who took part. Your teamwork, determination and creative thinking deserve to be celebrated. 👏

This is hands-on learning that brings maths, science and engineering to life, encouraging our learners to explore ideas, learn from mistakes and work together towards a solution. 🛠️

A little wood, plenty of teamwork and a big test at the end. 🌉

What an incredible day for our iGEMS Grade 11 learners at the annual Bridge Building Competition with SANRAL, Labco and Briggs.

Our learners stretched themselves, putting their creativity, problem-solving and practical skills to work as they designed and built wooden bridges. Then came the moment of truth: testing how much weight each bridge could hold.

Beyond the final result, the day was about sharing ideas, working together and discovering how engineering principles translate into something you can build and test.

Well done to everyone who participated, and congratulations to our winners. Thank you to our funders and partners for making these valuable learning experiences possible and helping our learners imagine their futures in engineering. 💙
