🌿 Mandela Day | 2nd Semester Peer Mentor Refresher Training

The Faculty of Health Sciences proudly welcomed our Peer Mentors for their 2nd Semester Training, held in the spirit of Mandela Day.

As our mentors prepare to continue inspiring, supporting and empowering fellow students throughout the semester, they were also presented with stationery packs to equip them for the journey ahead. 🎒📚✏️

A heartfelt thank you to all the departments within the Faculty of Health Sciences for making this initiative possible through a wonderful collaborative effort. Together, we continue to invest in our mentors and strengthen the support we provide to our students.

Faculty of Health Sciences Celebrates Peer Mentor Refresher Training on Mandela Day

In celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day, the Faculty of Health Sciences hosted its 2026 Peer Mentor Refresher Training under the inspiring theme, "Ubuntu in Action: Carrying the Legacy Forward." The event brought together the Faculty's dedicated Peer Mentors for a morning of learning, reflection and renewed commitment to serving first-year students.

The event also featured a special Peer Mentor Spotlight Awards ceremony, where seven exceptional mentors were recognised for their outstanding commitment, leadership and dedication. The recipients included:

Biotumelo Khoza (Medical School),
Thimna Makhuphula (Medical School),
Tshifhiwa Gabara (Department of Social Development Professions), Queentest Mabanne (Pharmacy Department),
Lolwethu Roboji (Department of Psychology),
Faith Sono (Environmental Health), and
Unathi Mtshungwana (Department of Nursing Science).

"Ubuntu teaches us that our humanity is bound together. Every act of kindness, every word of encouragement and every moment of service strengthens our community and carries Nelson Mandela's legacy forward. Through their dedication, our Peer Mentors continue to remind us that changing the world begins by changing the life of one student."

On 17 July 2026, the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics celebrated an important milestone as first-year students took part in the 1st Year Pledge and Awards Ceremony.

The event recognised students' commitment to the values and responsibilities of the profession while celebrating academic achievement and the beginning of their journey in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

Congratulations to all the award recipients and first-year students. We wish you every success as you continue your studies and grow into compassionate, dedicated healthcare professionals.
