Siyazenzela uses the healing power of nature to blend professional skills with wellness tools that help young adults build resilience - because confidence and employability grow together.
The Wilderness Leadership School began in 1957 under Dr Ian Player, champion for conservation in South Africa.
We are an African conservation NGO dedicated to protecting and sustaining species and spaces, as well as empowering youth with skills development and experiential environmental education. With the endangering of certain species, the Foundation was born in 1972 and registered as a trust in 1989.

Stats SA reports that 45.8% of young people (15–34) were unemployed in Q1 2026.
Through our Youth Development Programme, we are striving to change that.
We’re highlighting the first Siyazenzela graduation for 2026 held earlier this year, and the graduates behind these photos. We’re proud to share that this cohort achieved a 100% placement rate.
We celebrate the courage, potential, and perseverance of every young person choosing to grow.
Stromatolites are often called “living fossils” because they form some of the oldest evidence of life on Earth.
They offer a powerful window into the Earth’s history, helping us better understand our ecosystems and the conditions that shaped early life over 3.4 billion years ago.

Stromatolites are living rock-like structures built by tiny microbes (mainly bacteria) over a long time. Think of them as layer-by-layer “microbe cities” - where microorganisms trap and bind sediments, slowly forming visible mounds or mats.
Algoa Bay has one of the world’s most scientifically important clusters of living stromatolites, and they’re actively growing right now.
Why does it matter?
These tufa stromatolites in Algoa Bay are among the largest and most extensive coastal deposits known globally, even bigger/more concentrated than similar sites in Western Australia and Northern Ireland.
The way they form mirrors processes that have been happening since the very early history of life on Earth.
And scientists have found unique structures here that haven’t been described at other coastal stromatolite sites anywhere in the world.
In short: Algoa Bay isn’t just rich in life, it holds living formations that connect us to Earth’s ancient past.

Stromatolites feel like they belong a science museum… except they’re alive.
This week we’re exploring one of the most globally significant features of Algoa Bay: stromatolites.
Do you know what stromatolites are?

Elephants are highly intelligent and sophisticated animals. Swipe for 6 reasons they’re one of the most fascinating animals on the planet - from trunk skills to family dynamics to the way they shape entire landscapes.
Strong, intelligent, deeply social, and hugely important to the ecosystems they live in — elephants really are some of the most incredible animals on the planet.
This week, we’re diving into just how cool elephants are, from the amazing things they can do to the important role they play in the wild. We’ll also be sharing a few simple tips on how to watch elephants respectfully, because the best wildlife encounters are always the ones that put the animals first.
Keep an eye on our posts the rest of this week for all things elephants.

World Heritage isn’t a label you “apply for” overnight - it’s a rigorous process which comes with great importance and responsibility.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site is recognised for its Outstanding Universal Value — meaning its cultural and/or natural significance is so exceptional it matters beyond borders, “of common importance for present and future generations of all humanity.”
This week we’re breaking down (simply) what that means and how a place actually becomes a World Heritage Site.
