The South African Students Congress honours those who came before us and fought toe to toe with those who once self appointed themselves as mini God's of this country.
May their fighting spirits live longer upon all young people and students in all corners of the country. We encourage all young people to register themselves to vote and voice their concerns through the ballot. Students can register to vote on https://registertovote.elections.org.za/

MMS allowances
Students who did not get their full allowance from MMS
03/06/2026
The Students Congress has been on management's neck to fast track the process that we proposed that MMS funds be made available to student's INTELLI accounts for the month.
After meeting with management and negotiating on behalf of the student populace, students have received their funds although we have noted that not everyone has received it. We are closely monitoring the process and expect every student who is a beneficiary of this process to benefit fully.

The Students Congress embarked on a res visit today at Lillian Ngoyi residence to note done and seek to tackle their long standing issues.
SASCO shares the same sentiments with students regarding their MMS allowances being paid in full for this month as many students rely on those funds to go back home for recess.
We also noted the issue of the flawed and unreliable laundry system that inconveniences students with many cases of misplaced clothing items in many cases.
Lastly, we have also noted the state of hygiene in the bathrooms and dilapidated windows in some instances.
Additionally, SASCO has already started escalating the matters and has add on the submissions we have already submitted as negotiations regarding MMS are already on the pipeline.

Hasta la Victoria Siempre!
SASCO notes the recent email acknowledging receipt of the issues we raised during the 2 day protest.
Management for the first time in history has listened to student organizations. As we have said in our previous statement that Summerstrand shuttles will be reinstated from Monday the 25th of May.
Students who have been defunded will not be evicted from their residences and we will closely monitor the issue of MMS funds to be made fully available to students.
We were ready to have some dance lessons with management on the Africa Day celebration stage if they did not send the email by 13:00.
This is a scientific but necessary victory for the entire student populace. Lastly, Summerstrand students must stop behaving like slay queens and learn to fight for their rights.

Negotiations Update
SASCO with various student organizations have met management in regards with the issues we were raising during the protest.
They have agreed that the Summerstrand Shuttle Route will be reinstated and a memo will be issued out today. But because we know this tactics from management we will continue to protest and occupy the streets until we see the memo.
Other issues like MMS, Shuttle stickers for unfunded students and the eviction of defunded students will be discussed in due time.
This is a victory for the entire student populace. More updates to follow.
