Lig, lag en lekker kos ✝️

Die VCSV-basaar is op 31 Julie gehou. Dit was beslis een van die hoogtepunte van die kwartaal en boonop op DFM se verjaarsdag!

Daar was ’n groot verskeidenheid stalletjies en aktiwiteite om van te kies. Een van die gewildste stalletjies was die tombola-tafel. Die pryse was moontlik danksy die talle skenkings wat leerders tydens die sivviedag ingebring het. Dit het groot opgewondenheid veroorsaak, aangesien almal gehoop het om met ’n spesiale prys huis toe te gaan en hul familie te verras.

Die jonger besoekers is ook behoorlik vermaak. Van die gesigverfstalletjie tot die snoekertafel was daar iets vir almal om te geniet.

Deur die loop van die aand het inspirerende Christelike musiek gespeel, wat bygedra het tot die warm en vrolike atmosfeer. Dit was ’n aand waar mense kon saamkuier, nuwe mense ontmoet en die VCSV-gemeenskap kon vier.

’n Groot dankie aan elke leerder, ouer, onderwyser en vrywilliger wat op enige manier gehelp het om die basaar ’n sukses te maak. Sonder julle ondersteuning sou hierdie aand nie moontlik gewees het nie.

Die VCSV-basaar het weereens gewys dat DFM ’n skool is waar mense saamstaan, mekaar ondersteun en herinneringe skep wat nog lank onthou sal word!

Sticks in Action!

On Saturday, 1 August, our school hosted the Brandwag Derby. It was an exciting day filled with hockey, competitive matches and plenty of school spirit.

Our U/14A girls got the day off to a fantastic start, putting up a spectacular fight and securing a convincing 6–0 victory over Brandwag.

The U/16A girls faced a tougher challenge but showed great determination throughout the match. They managed to score two goals to secure a well-deserved victory.

Our U/16B girls fought hard and refused to give up, eventually ending the match in a 0–0 draw.

The U/18A girls took to the astro and gave it their all. Despite their efforts, Brandwag’s defence was on their A-game and the match ended goalless.

Our U/18 boys finished the day on a high note. Playing with patience and confidence, they managed to score five goals against Brandwag and secured another well-deserved victory.

It was a memorable day of hockey filled with determination, teamwork and school spirit. Well done to all our players for giving it their all on the field!

Harde dag, harder span🏐

Hulle het gestruikel, weer opgestaan en net aangehou speel. Saterdag, 1 Augustus, het D.F. Malherbe se netbaldogters teen Hoërskool Brandwag kragte gemeet en gewys wat dit beteken om die DFM-klere met trots te dra en tot die einde vir jou skool te speel.

Die wedstryde was uitdagend, maar die netbaldogters het deurgaans met vasberadenheid, deursettingsvermoë en spanwerk gespeel. Elke span het hul beste gelewer en aangehou veg tot die eindfluitjie.

Hoewel die uitslae nie in DFM se guns was nie, stap die span nie teleurgesteld van die baan af nie. Hulle stap daarvan af as ’n span wat waardevolle lesse geleer het, sterker geword het en DFM steeds met trots verteenwoordig.

DFM vs Brandwag 🏉

Fierce determination was shown throughout the rugby matches on Saturday, 1 August, and we are proud to say that all our players gave it their all on the field.

The U/14A showed what true determination looks like. The team displayed great resilience and a strong will to win, continuing to push until the final whistle.

The U/15A put on a thrilling display of rugby, with the players fighting until the very end and refusing to give up against a tough opponent.

The U/16A delivered an exciting match, with both sides fighting hard for the win. Our players showed great determination and passion for the sport, continuing to push forward until the final whistle.

The 1st team also put on an exciting display of fast-paced rugby, showcasing the talent and skill within our team. They fought hard and gave their all on the field.

Although the results did not fall in our favour, DFM could not be prouder of the effort, determination and sportsmanship displayed by every player across all the matches.

Well done to every player who represented DFM on the field! 💙

PERSONEELKONSERT 2026

71 Years of Excellence 🌟🥳

On Friday, 31 July, DFM celebrated its 71st Founders’ Day with students beaming with joy, spirit and pride.

During the parade, learners from each class proudly showed off their banners.

The theme of this year’s parade was “Our Past, Our Pride, Our Future”, and the learners did not disappoint. They proudly marched with their banners before the judges in the hopes of being crowned the class with the best banner.

After the parade, all the learners, staff and guests gathered in the hall, where Mr van Niekerk welcomed everyone. The choir sang an angelic version of the school song, followed by another song that gave the learners goosebumps. Mr Du Preez then led the Bible reading and prayer.

Our special guest, Genevève Marx, then shared her journey from DFM to earning her PhD. Christ is her foundation and she strongly believes that every opportunity she has received was from the Lord. She spoke about the importance of hard work and discipline in getting her to where she is today.

She ended her speech by saying: “Excellence is not about being the best, but it is about doing your best.”

Then came the most anticipated part of the day... finding out who had the best banner!

To wrap up an unforgettable day, learners and staff gathered to enjoy some delicious DFM cake. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the staff members whose hard work made this event possible.

Looking back on 71 years of pride and tradition, DFM’s legacy is truly something to be proud of.

From Top Achiever to Doctor 👩🏻‍⚕️🩺

On 27 July, DFM’s top achievers attended the Top Achievers Evening, where they had the privilege of listening to and being inspired by guest speaker Kelly Mathiesen. To qualify as a Top Achiever, learners are required to achieve an A-aggregate (80%) in their Term 2 and Term 4 reports.

Kelly is currently in her third year of studying towards a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at Nelson Mandela University. She is a proud DFM alumna and was delighted to share her story with our learners.

Kelly spoke about her experience over the past three years at Missionvale Campus and highlighted the hard work and dedication it took to get where she is today.

The learners thoroughly enjoyed the insightful evening and their faces lit up when they were treated to delicious snacks and desserts. The purpose of this event is to recognise the hard work and dedication these learners demonstrated during the Term 2 examinations.

A token of appreciation goes to Mrs Pretorius for setting up and organising this extraordinary evening. Of course, a special thank you to Kelly, who took the time to be there, share her journey and inspire the learners. She truly is the definition of “beauty and brains”.

DFM Senior Debate Team Wins Quarter-Finals!🗣️

On 30 July, the DFM Senior Debate Team travelled to Westering High School to compete in the quarter-finals of the Debating League, where they debated against Muir College.

The motion was: “This House would place more weight on continuous assessment (group projects, presentations and class tests throughout the year) than final examinations when deciding whether to promote learners.”

The team consisted of Talitha Menemene, Yonwaba Nyoka and Abigail Sanderson-Smith, who delivered a compelling case. Their outstanding performance secured them the win. A special congratulations goes to Abigail Sanderson-Smith, who was awarded Best Speaker.

Congratulations to the team on this remarkable achievement! We wish them every success in their upcoming debates.
