🦋 From egg to caterpillar, cocoon to butterfly…

Learning about the butterfly life cycle became a hands-on experience in our preschool classroom.

Using different pasta shapes to represent each stage, our children could touch, match, sequence and explore the transformation for themselves.

It may look like play, but there is so much learning happening — early science, sequencing, fine motor development, problem-solving and new vocabulary, all through an activity children can actively take part in.

At E=mc² Preschool in Port Elizabeth, our Finnish-inspired, play-based approach turns early learning into meaningful experiences that encourage children to wonder, explore and discover.

At 18 months, the world is full of things to touch, investigate, repeat, carry, open, build and discover.

At E=mc², we give little children time and space to follow that curiosity — because some of the most important learning begins with a simple desire to find out “What happens if…?”

Curiosity begins with a moment of wonder. ✨

When children are given time to notice, touch, question, experiment and explore, they begin to make their own connections and discoveries.

At E=mc², we create meaningful experiences that invite children to be active participants in their learning — with teachers there to guide, encourage and know when to step back.

Holiday Club fun at E=mc² ✨️🐑

Soft, fluffy shaving cream became our sheep’s wool for a wonderfully messy sensory activity during outdoor play.

Little hands squished, spread, patted and explored — turning a simple activity into a whole lot of fun.

Our Holiday Club is filled with playful, hands-on experiences that keep children engaged, curious and happily creating throughout the school break.

Messy hands. Happy hearts. Holiday Club fun.

One invitation. Two different ways to explore. 🌿🎨

Our Exciting Explorers used leaves, flowers and herbs to create their own nature collages — choosing, arranging and carefully sticking each piece into place.

Our Mighty Minds took the same natural materials in a completely different direction, turning leaves and plants into paintbrushes and discovering the different marks, patterns and textures they could create.

The materials may be simple, but the learning is rich: fine motor skills, creativity, sensory exploration, decision-making and experimentation all come together through one thoughtfully planned experience.

At E=mc², we adapt learning experiences to meet children at their developmental stage — giving them the freedom to explore, create and discover in different ways.

Holiday time at E=mc² means the fun keeps going. 🌈

Our Holiday Club is offered exclusively to children already enrolled at E=mc², giving families a convenient option during the school holidays while children remain in a place they already know and love.

For our children, that means familiar teachers, familiar friends and a familiar environment — with a slightly more relaxed holiday rhythm and plenty of fun along the way.

From colourful creative projects and stories to sensory play, movement, outdoor time and hands-on activities, each day brings something different to explore.

This week, Elmer and the Rainbow inspired a wonderfully colourful collage activity — lots of little hands, lots of concentration and lots of very unique elephants. 🐘🌈

For parents, Holiday Club offers continuity and convenience.
For children, it means fun, connection and familiar surroundings.

Just another way we make the E=mc² school year work for our families.

Sometimes learning looks like this. 🎨🙌

And sometimes, the learning continues after the activity.

After a wonderfully messy painting experience, there are hands to wash, taps to turn, soap to use and towels to find. These simple everyday routines are valuable learning opportunities too.

At E=mc², Independence & Everyday Life is an important part of our curriculum. Throughout the day, children are encouraged to make choices, care for themselves and their environment, take responsibility and practise doing more for themselves.

Our teachers are there to guide and support when needed — but also to know when to step back and give a child the time and space to try.

Because independence isn't something children suddenly learn when they're older. It grows through hundreds of small everyday moments.

Celebrating the many cultures that make us, us. 🇿🇦

South Africa is home to a wonderfully diverse cultural heritage. Our children brought a little of that diversity into E=mc². 🌍

For our Heritage Day dress-up, our children came to school proudly wearing clothing that celebrates their families, cultures and traditions.

And just look how wonderful they look! 💛

Days like today give our children a simple but meaningful opportunity to notice, share and celebrate what makes each of us unique — while learning that different traditions, languages and backgrounds can all belong together in one community.

Celebrating our heritage. Celebrating our people. 🇿🇦

This Heritage Day, we want to celebrate some very special members of our E=mc² family — our incredible assistants.

They bring so much more to our classrooms than an extra pair of hands.

They comfort. They encourage. They listen. They help little hands learn to do things for themselves. They notice when someone needs a cuddle, celebrate the small victories and bring warmth, patience and care into the everyday moments that shape childhood.

Dressed beautifully in celebration of their heritage, we celebrate them — the individuals, cultures and stories they bring to our school and the important role they play in the lives of our children.

Our children grow up surrounded by people with different backgrounds, traditions and experiences. Through those relationships, they begin to learn something deeply important: to value one another, to respect difference and to know that everyone belongs.

To our wonderful assistants: thank you for the love, energy and care you bring to E=mc² every day. We appreciate you. 💛
