STEAM DAY: ALEXANDRIA HIGH SCHOOL 22 SEPTEMBER
On the 22nd of September the GMMDC team took STEAM to Alexandria High School!
Learners got hands-on with:
Rangers Coding — using the Tangible Games Rangers App to code their way through challenges, with prizes going to the top 3 teams!
A motivational talk by Ms Margeaux Liberty, GMMDC & Nelson Mandela University Faculty of Science Alumni, on what going to Nelson Mandela University really entails and how to prepare for the journey!
And lastly Spirolaterals — putting their Maths creativity to the test and drawing mind-bending patterns,
Thank you to Alexandria High School for the warm welcome and to all the learners who brought so much energy and curiosity. The future of STEAM is bright!

MATRIC EXAM PREPARATION | NEWELL HIGH SCHOOL | 17 & 18 SEPTEMBER Exams are around the corner and we are making sure our learners are READY!
The GMMDC hosted an intensive Matric Exam Preparation at Newell High School on the 17th & 18th of September.
Day 1 (17 Sept): Mathematics Paper 1
Day 2 (18 Sept): Mathematics Paper 2
We were joined by dedicated Grade 12 learners from Newell High, Sophakama High School and Kwazakhele High School 2022 — all focused, engaged and ready to improve their results! ✏️This programme was made possible through the generous donation and continued support of our valued partner, ISUZU South Africa . Thank you for investing in the future of our learners and for helping us close the gap in Maths education!

A Incredible Achievement!

Here is a testimony that has been shared by Obuhle Manga (Grade 12 Ethembeni 2025), now pursuing BScEng in Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Cape Town:

"Going into grade 11 I didn't really have much passion and aspirations about my academics and the career path I wanted to take, I just knew it was going to be a STEM career.

I remember being frustrated at the beginning of term two after getting a 69% in physics & 56% in maths for the first term. I knew I could do better than that, but I kept procrastinating, due to my lack of resources but the commencement of the GMMDC programme at my school changed all of that. The availability of the tablet and offline maths and physics learning material and self-tests made it hard to make excuses and pushed me to engage more with these subjects outside of class. From the time I started using the tablet and writing self-tests, my academic progress snowballed not just in STEM subjects but across the board.

I began engaging more with my schoolwork and formed closer bonds with my teachers which played a pivotal role in shaping my career path as I choose to follow the footsteps of my physics teacher and want to become an electrical engineer, which I am currently studying at the University of Cape Town.

I solemnly believe that the work ethic instilled in me by the GMMDC is what has carried me thus far and will continue to carry me through even greater difficulties. It is what moved me from 2 or 3 distinctions to averaging 90% across all 7 subjects in my matric year and I am truly grateful that I was afforded such an opportunity. I wish that others that come after me will also be granted the opportunity to unlock their potential and be given the platform to achieve even greater things than I have."

We had the pleasure of visiting Bethelsdorp Comprehensive School to deliver a special prize!
Congratulations to Luminathi Williams who was our lucky draw winner from a pool of learners who submitted CORRECT Mathematics crossword puzzles from the recent Maths and Science Exhibition hosted by the Nelson Mandela University - Faculty of Education! Your hard work and love for Maths has paid off!
