Toddlers' Workshop The mother and child experience

03/10/2026

At Toddlers’ Workshop, we cannot emphasise the importance of movement enough!

We make the most of baby’s first year by encouraging movement in different directions and on different planes: up and down, forwards and backwards, and from side to side.

These movements stimulate baby’s vestibular sense, helping to build a strong foundation for future motor development and the achievement of important developmental milestones.

Move, explore, learn and grow!

**Play dough – little hands getting ready for big skills!**

Play dough is far more than just a fun activity for toddlers aged 1–4. It is a wonderful developmental tool that allows children to learn through their hands while using their imagination, language, movement and problem-solving skills.

Our first thought might be to reach for plastic rollers and cutters, but we all know that toddlers often prefer *real-life kitchen utensils* to plastic toys!

So, I took some time to source a variety of kitchen utensils that are safe for little hands and tried them out with a little 2-year-old. **He was ecstatic!** 😊

The videos were not professionally done, but they will give you a lovely idea of the wonderful concentration, curiosity and absorbed attention that a simple play dough activity can inspire.

Sometimes, the simplest activities create the biggest opportunities for learning! 💛

Toddlers’ Workshop had the privilege of collaborating with Baby Therapy at their beautiful venue just off Circular Drive. Five moms and their babies enjoyed a great workout before relaxing together in the oxygenated hydrotherapy bath. We had so much fun! I am looking forward to many more collaborations with Baby Thrpy Port Elizabeth.
