Looking Back on an Inspiring Week of Creativity! ✍️

From July 29–31, the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities, had the absolute privilege of hosting the very first Jakes Gerwel Foundation Creative Writing Workshop, entitled "Kus tot KwaNojoli", right here in the Eastern Cape.

It was a vibrant gathering of minds, bringing together aspiring writers from all across the country with participants traveling from as far as Delmas, Johannesburg, Kimberley, George, Stellenbosch, and the West Coast!

The science behind the Magic Milk Experiment!👩‍🔬

The Magic Milk Experiment demonstrates the amphiphilic nature of soap when added to full cream milk. The hydrophobic tails of the soap chase the fat molecules to form micelles around them, exposing only the hydrophilic heads to the rest of the milk, which is water. The food colouring stays in the water phase, and while its movement shows the fat being chased, the water molecules are simultaneously moving to an area of high surface tension as the addition of soap destabilises it from the centre. The movement eventually stops when equilibrium has been reached.
