The Power of Everyday Conversations 🗣️✨
Did you know that the best way to support your toddler’s speech and language development is through simple, everyday conversations? 💬 Research shows that children who engage in more back-and-forth interactions with adults develop stronger language skills and a larger vocabulary. 🏆
💡 Try this: Instead of just giving instructions, pause and wait for your child’s response. For example, instead of saying "Put on your shoes," ask, "What do we need before we go outside?" and give them time to think and answer.
Small changes = big impact!
Keep talking, engaging, and building those communication skills. 💬👶

WHY ARE SCHOLASTIC ASSESSMENTS SO EXPENSIVE? A PARENT-FRIENDLY EXPLANATION 💰💰
We get it – Seeing the price of a psychological assessment can make you do a double take 🤯But before you start questioning your life choices, here’s why these assessments come with a hefty price tag (and why they’re totally worth it!).
1. You’re Paying for an Expert Brain 🧠
Test practitioners (i.e. psychometrists and psychologists) spend years training to understand how kids learn, think, and thrive. They know their stuff!
2. The Tests Aren’t Cheap 📚
These aren’t your average school tests! They’re scientific tools that have been researched, validated, and normed (fancy way of saying “tested on lots of kids”). Tests can easily cost upwards of R30 000 per test! Plus, practitioners must buy official test booklets for every child – no photocopies allowed! Test booklets can cost anything from R10 – R500 per answer booklet. Use 5 or 6 different tests during an assessment, and booklets alone can cost a fortune.
3. It’s Not Just a Test – It’s a Full Investigation 🕵🏼♀️
Assessments involve:
• Interviews with parents and teachers
• Several hours of one-on-one testing
• Scoring and analysing results
• A detailed report with recommendations to help your child succeed
4. Legal & Ethical Standards ‼️
Practitioners must follow strict rules to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality. No cutting corners! All practicing psychometrists and psychologists in South Africa must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) to legally assess children. Registration isn’t free! Practitioners must also constantly update their knowledge to stay registered, by attending workshops, training sessions, and ethical courses. Because test practitioners handle sensitive information and make recommendations that impact a child’s education and future, they must have professional liability insurance in case of legal claims, which also amounts to quite a sum!
5. A Lifetime of Benefits 💡
A good assessment can open doors - extra support at school, learning accommodations, and even peace of mind knowing what your child needs to shine.
Still unsure? Think of it as an investment in your child's future success and happiness. And remember—you're not just paying for a test; you're paying for expert insight that could change your child’s life! 🌱🌱
