THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS' UNION (PEU) HAILS THE MOVE BY GAUTENG MEC FOR EDUCATION PANYAZA LESUFI

The Professional Educators' Union is immensely elated by MEC Panyaza Lesufi in partnering with police, in the wake of issues of security in our schools.

We are aware that the move might not be a silver bullet for solutions to all challenges. This is the move in the right direction, which is greatly appreciated.

We thus urge all of our structures in the province, to rally behind this noble move.

We also shower accolades to the MEC, for the incorporation of the Pre- Grade R class into the mainstream education.

These are the type leaders we want, to take our Education system to the next level. Welcome MEC.

*PEU MEDIA STATEMENT ON THE CALL FOR TEACHERS TO ARM THEMSELVES*

The Professional Educators ' Union notes with utter concern the call for teachers to arm themselves when going to work in order to defend themselves, in the wake of the recent spiral attacks and senseless killings in our schools.

Whilst we fully understand the agitation and sizzling anger as well as the deep feeling of frustration and vulnerability by our teachers, we cannot even for a moment , think of arming ourselves to schools, as this will simply fuel the already burning fire and results in even more deaths.

The gesture will just be an ace on the sleeves of perpetrators, as we will be playing their senseless game, something that they took time to master.

PEU calls for calmness and deep reasoning to get amicable solutions to all of the challenges we face in terms of security in our schools. Our responsibility as torch- bearers and shapers of our respective communities can never be relegated to criminals.

PEU thus, call for calmness to all of her members, to distance themselves from such calls to arm themselves to school.
Let us not for a moment, try to think of throughing the innocent and beautiful child with bath water.

As we do so, we once more urge and call upon the law enforcement agents and other related authorities, to prioritise issues of safety in our schools.

The Professional Educators' Union(PEU) wishes all of our teachers a well- deserved rest as schools close for the second term.

09/06/2019

The Professional Educators Union (PEU) has learned with shock and sadness on the untimely death of Mr W***y Kutumela, who was one of Directors in the Department of Education.

We deep our burner in joining other fraternal organisations, to send our profound and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the Department.

We are quite aware that at this point in time, words alone will never be enough to ameliorate the excruciating pain they are going through.

Our hearts and thoughts will always be with them during this trying moment.

W***y was undoubtedly one of the doyens of labour laws in education. His sobriety , impartiality and even-handedness in the ex*****on of his duties will be solely missed.

As we mourn his death, we equally celebrate his life and the immense contribution he made in our education system.

He was one the poineers and founders of our Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) , who continued to shape and mould it to its current form.

May the Almighty give his family and friends, the necessary energy to can pull through this difficult moment.

May his soul get eternal peace and rise in glory.
