We must not be afraid of telling educated people the truth. Their inflated egos do not mean that they are correct. Quite honestly they are part of the problem in this country. Just because they went to university they think that they are mini messiahs who are all knowing and have solutions to the problems that this society faces when in fact they do not. They parade as if once you climb graduation stage you miraculously get all the world's knowledge. In reality they cram for a couple of years then move on to wear tight suits, twang and try to convince us that they must run the country. We say this because we know, we went to university and most of the learning happens outside the lecture halls.
Lately they have been making noise saying educated people must be deployed and all that garbage. Sure education is important but what kind of education? The same education we were saying must be decolonized a couple of years ago? The very same people who were fighting against this education are now boasting about it. Is this not the highest level of hypocrisy?
If your education is not centred around transformation of society for the better then it's useless. We cant just say we want educated people when the very same people will just get to power buy big cars, take selfies on vacation and show off how expensive the liquor they drink is. Education for us means service to Afrika any other education is meaningless.
Here I am not suggesting that people must not be educated but merely highlighting the pitfalls of this country's education. Most of us are just trained to run the affairs of white people. Run their firms which exploit our own people. What Mbe Mbhele calls 'sophisticated slaves'.
If our education is to be meaningful it means that we must humble ourselves be in touch with the people. Listen to them and forge solutions with them not for them. That way we can begin making a difference. Because the very same people you call uneducated are victims of circumstance, others are smarter more talented than us but were denied opportunity. Let's think about that also.
University people stop being snobbish, you are not that special (in the greater scheme of things)
When we were still you at around six , we were frequently asked what do we wanna be when we grew up , it was oftentimes answered diligently as varying occupations as thought , some of us were fortunate to locate themselves early ,some of us misfortunes had befallen us and we have yet found ourselves , now that we've grown the question has transformed into now that you've grown ,what do you desire to become, what's your major purpose, what do you do to attain your major purpose π€π€π€βΊπ
