three ways in how to trace direction of the river?

1.Damwall- river flows in the direction of the damwall- eg above it goes to the North of the damwall

2. Tributaries- point in the direction of the flow at the confluence
Water flows from tributaries and goes to the main stream

3. Rivers flow from higher altitudes to lower altitudes... So rivers will flow from higher contour lines to lower contours
