Today, Minister of Basic Education, Ms Siviwe Gwarube, joined education stakeholders, partners, and outstanding educators at the National Teachers’ Awards Winners Brunch in Johannesburg to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession.

Hosted in partnership with FirstRand Group, the event recognised educators whose dedication, innovation, and commitment continue to make a meaningful impact in classrooms and communities across South Africa. FirstRand Group’s Head of Social Investing, Ms Kone Gugushe, welcomed guests and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that celebrate and empower teachers.

The programme also provided an opportunity for award-winning educators to share their experiences, reflect on the transformative power of education, and discuss the valuable lessons gained through the National Teachers’ Awards programme. Their stories highlighted the important role teachers play in shaping future generations, driving positive change, and strengthening South Africa’s education system.

In her address, Minister Gwarube congratulated the award recipients and acknowledged the resilience, professionalism, and passion demonstrated by teachers across the country. She emphasised the critical role educators play in improving learning outcomes and preparing learners for meaningful participation in society, while encouraging continued excellence in the profession.

The brunch served as a fitting celebration of the educators whose commitment and hard work continue to inspire learners, colleagues, and communities nationwide.
