A little re-introduction from me! 👋

For those who don't know me, I'm Alison, and I’ve been running Moov to Move Polokwane since May 2023.

Outside of Moov to Move, I’m happiest outdoors. I love nature, animals, good food and spending time with my dogs — and if I can get on a horse, even better! 🐴🐶🌿

I’ve always had a passion for working with children, and one of the things I love most about them is their honesty and joy. They have such a wonderful ability to find happiness in the little things, and I think that's something we adults could all learn from.

I started Moov to Move Polokwane because I wanted to be part of helping children develop through movement in a way that is fun, engaging and meaningful. There is so much more happening in a class than simply running, jumping and playing — every activity gives children an opportunity to develop skills, challenge themselves and build confidence.

My favourite moments are the ones where I see a child master a new skill they genuinely thought they couldn't do. Watching that little moment of “I did it!” is incredibly rewarding, and it's a big part of why I love what I do.

So, now you know a little more about the person behind Moov to Move Polokwane. 💙🧡

This week, we're focusing on kicking! ⚽

When children learn to control and move objects with their hands and feet, they're developing what are known as manipulative skills. Kicking and dribbling are great examples of these skills in action.

There's a lot more involved than simply getting a foot to the ball! Children are learning to judge where the ball is, coordinate their eyes and feet, control the amount of force they use and maintain their balance as they move.

As they progress, they can practise kicking a stationary or moving ball, dribbling and even kicking a ball into the air. These fundamental skills provide a foundation for many of the games and sports children enjoy, including soccer and rugby.

Here's a little glimpse into yesterday's session at Moov to Move Polokwane! 💙🧡

It looks like fun... because it is! 🤸💙

But behind every jump, balance, climb and obstacle is a carefully planned activity with a purpose.

Moov to Move Polokwane is an extra-mural movement programme for children aged 2–9 years, designed to develop balance, coordination, confidence and the gross motor skills that support school readiness.

Through purposeful movement, children build the physical foundations they need to learn, play and thrive.

Did you know children aren't born knowing how to jump well? 🤸

Like any other skill, jumping takes practice.

As children grow, they learn how to push off the ground, control their bodies in the air and land safely. These are all important movement skills that support everyday play and lay the foundation for future sporting activities.

This week, our little movers had plenty of opportunities to practise—and judging by the smiles, they loved every minute of it! 💙🧡

🎉 Welcome back to Term 3!

It was wonderful to see all our little movers back in class this week, ready to jump, run and have fun!

This term started with activities that focused on locomotor skills—the basic movement skills that help children move confidently through their everyday world.

Whether it's running across the playground, jumping over obstacles or skipping with friends, these skills are the building blocks for active, healthy movement.

The best part? To the children, it just feels like play. 😊

We can't wait to see what this term has in store! 💙🧡

💙 Celebrate the Small Wins

As parents, it's easy to notice the big milestones—riding a bike, catching a ball, writing their name or confidently joining in with friends.

But behind every big achievement are countless small victories.

Every attempt.
Every wobble.
Every jump.
Every try.

These little moments build confidence, resilience and the skills children need to keep growing.

At Moov to Move, we celebrate every step of the journey, because every child develops at their own pace—and every small win deserves to be celebrated.

🌞 School holidays are here... but learning doesn't take a holiday!

Children don't stop developing just because school is out. In fact, some of the best learning happens through everyday play.

Whether they're climbing at the playground, kicking a ball in the garden, riding a bike, building with blocks or dancing around the lounge, they're developing important skills that support their growth.

These activities help to:
💙 Improve balance and coordination
💙 Build strength and endurance
💙 Develop body awareness
💙 Boost confidence
💙 Encourage problem-solving and creativity

This holiday, don't worry about keeping little ones busy every minute. Simply give them opportunities to move, explore and play.

Every jump, climb and laugh is helping them grow.

🔄 The Power of Repetition

As we approach the end of the school term, many of our activities focus on revisiting skills that we've been developing throughout the term.

While it may look like we're simply repeating an exercise, something much bigger is happening behind the scenes.

Every jump, balance, throw, catch and movement pattern helps strengthen neural pathways, improve coordination, build confidence and develop muscle memory.

Children don't learn a skill by doing it once—they learn through practice, repetition and encouragement.

It's often in these repeated activities that we see the greatest growth, as children become more confident, more capable and more willing to challenge themselves.

Small steps repeated consistently lead to big developmental milestones.

💙 Enjoy. Learn. Grow.
