The Montessori approach to music is based on the premise that children learn through experience and their senses first. Music is treated as a language based, sensorial and very important part of a child's development. They are able to actively take part and experience pitch, rhythm and tone through singing, moving their bodies and playing musical instruments. A huge thank you to the Ha Man for coming to share his musical talents with our Village Eco School children. There was lots of fun, laughter, dancing and a very joyful noise was made.
Thank you also to the parents who contributed towards the Ha Man's travel costs, your children really enjoyed themselves.
Many hands make light work.

Children at The Village Eco-Preschool participated in The Bitou Birding Festival this week.
With bird books and binoculars in hand, the teachers and the children embarked on a wonderful adventure across the Bitou Wetland to find the birdhide. They spent time spotting and identifying birds with the help of the teachers.
The Bitou Wetland is a premier birdwatching location, and common birds spotted there include various waterbirds, waders, and raptors.
These include:
African Fish Eagle (we spotted one really close to the hide)
Malachite, Giant Kingfisher, and Pied Kingfisher
Blue Crane (This majestic, endangered bird was a very special sighting for the children!!)
African Spoonbill, Ibises, Yellow-billed Duck, African Black Duck, Spur-winged Goose, Egyptian Goose,
Common Greenshank, Black-winged Stilt, Pied Avocet, Kittlitz's Plover, Reed Cormorant and White-breasted Cormorant,
Huge thanks to Jaques Van Zyl for allowing us access to his property and for building this fabulous bird hide.

For Arbour Day, May’s class set out to Kalander Kloof to visit the ancient Yellowwood trees, while Claire’s class embarked on an adventure to the Hebron Private Nature Reserve. The children hiked through the kloof, explored the forest, and learned the names of the trees they discovered along the way. As they wandered along winding paths beneath the lush indigenous canopy, they were immersed in the sights and sounds of the forest. Through this experience, they came to understand the importance of the forest and the delicate balance of the ecosystem it sustains. This hands-on journey not only deepened their awareness of nature’s interconnectedness but also inspired a sense of responsibility to care for and protect it.
We want to thank Anne from Nature's Way Farmstall for allowing us access through her property 🤗
