Sometimes you see a quote that resonates with you immediately.
That is what happened with this quote.

Something has shifted with my approach to life and living. Maybe it is a result growing older, my kids being older or clarity after unpacking and processing many negative beliefs.

Irrespective of the reason, I am seeing progress, in my personal life, with my writing and in my business. Instead of holding back and doubting myself, I am striding ahead confidently.

And the way is appearing. Resources and people that can help me are stepping into my path. Mutually beneficial relationships developing.

Excited for the year ahead. I know that I am starting to see the fruits of the the hard work that I have put in previously.

Does this quote resonate with you? How is it playing out in your life?

I experienced a full circle moment this weekend. Preparing flashcards for one of my students, I was transported back in time to the early 80’s. Helping my mum create posters and flashcards for her class at school. Mum was a foundation phase teacher - a career that spanned 40 years. Who knew that I would be doing something so similar today?

Despite technological advancements, apps and online games, sometimes the simple resources work best.

Bite sized bits of information in your hand that serve as a reminder of a concept. No screens. No distractions.

I never imagined that I would end up where I am today, sharing my love of learning with young minds.

While I enjoy my time tutoring students, it is the creation of resources, developing creative ways to explain complex concepts that brings me joy. This is the role that excites me - not delivering information but to awaken curiosity, one small moment at a time.

In the words of Robert Frost - "I am not a teacher, but an awakener."

In this video, I interview Wedaad Price (pharmacist and wellness coach) and we discuss the impact of healthy eating and lifestyle habits on focus, concentration, and learning, as well as how poor choices can negatively affect academic performance and overall wellbeing.

You can watch the video here: https://myeducoach.co.za/in-conversation/

What your teen eats directly affects how they think, learn, and focus.
The brain is a powerhouse — and just like any engine, it runs best on quality fuel. The right nutrition can sharpen concentration, improve memory, and keep your teen’s energy steady throughout the day.

Support their focus, learning, and mental clarity with foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats:
🥚 Eggs for choline, which supports memory and brain development.
🍓 Berries packed with antioxidants to protect and boost brain function.
🌾 Whole grains for slow-release energy that keeps them alert without crashes.
🥜 Nuts for healthy fats and protein that fuel the brain.
💧 Water to stay hydrated — even mild dehydration can affect focus.

To avoid mid-day slumps, swap sugary snacks for smarter options like fruit, yogurt, veggie sticks, or a handful of nuts. These choices help prevent the spike-and-crash effect that leaves teens feeling tired and unfocused.

🥦 Feed the brain. Nourish the focus.
Small daily changes to your teen’s diet can have a big impact on their academic performance, mood, and overall wellbeing.

*Every week brings a win — no matter how small.*

In the rush of school, sports, social life, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy for teens to focus only on what’s not done yet. But one of the simplest ways to build confidence and resilience in your child is to help them notice and celebrate the wins they’ve already achieved.

Try asking your teen:
💬 “What are you proud of this week?”

It could be finishing a tough homework assignment, speaking up in class, helping a friend, or simply getting through a challenging day. When we take time to recognise progress — big or small — we send a powerful message: You are seen. Your effort matters.

🌟 Small steps make big journeys.
By encouraging your teen to reflect on their achievements, you’re helping them develop self-awareness, a growth mindset, and the motivation to keep going.

Let’s raise teens who celebrate their progress, value their effort, and believe in their ability to succeed.
