Skyhawk Aviation Virtual

During the November 2014 Skyhawk Aviation Virtual began as an idea to bring virtual pilot training to South Africa. At the time there was no plan in getting VATSIM ratings to the community but only to train them in the basics of flying.

We started out by launching a Wix site, Getting liveries for our aircraft and putting together lessons.

Mathias Lund Was the first student to ever walk through our doors. Less than a month later Jonathan Stroud was the first to complete our PPL course.

In Dec 2014/ Jan 2015 Myself and JJ Willemse joined FSEconomy and started to incorporate it into Skyhawk. This however did not work out and we decided to apply as a VATSIM ATO in May 2015.

By July 2015 we had 28 active students and 3 Instructors. On the 27th of June 2015 we had our ATO audit done and was approved as the FIRST AND ONLY VATSIM ATO IN THE WHOLE OF AFRICA.

Since then we trained and rated a total of 33 Pilots:

P1: 19 Pilots
P2: 9 Pilots
P3: 4 Pilots
P4: 1 Pilot

Since December 2014 Skyhawk Aviation Virtual has never stopped growing to date.

Skyhawk has however now moved from being a standalone ATO to an official Regional Pilot Training Department.

Our name has been changed to VATAME - Pilot Training Department(VATAME PTD) and we will now serve the whole of Africa and the Middle East.

In Preparation for this we are currently selecting and Training Flight Instructors and examiners for each division within the VATAME Region.

Our new Quality Policies and Programs and SOP will insure the best training is given by the PTD Staff.

Keep a lookout for the announcement of your Divisions Flight Instructors and examiners.

Congrats to Lawrence McDonald for obtaining his P4 rating!

NOTAM:

We constantly update our database of questions to ensure quality is maintained. We have done this again today. +/- 20 questions was added to each course and problems with links is now fixed.

Remember that we have +/-400 questions in the system and it automatically generates your 30 questions.This means everyone will still get 30 questions on your written tests.

Our Skyhawk Student Sundays event starts tomorrow at 1700z (7pm local time). Lesson 1 will be Basic R/T Phraseology. Hope to see many people join us on the vatsaf TeamSpeak server!

Good morning!

We have a few stats for those of you wondering how the only VATSIM ATO in South Africa is progressing :

We have 28 Active Students.

There is an average of 2 ratings issued per day.

250+ Questions in the exam centre.

100% pass rate in all our practical exams.

78% average for P1 written exams.
88% average for P2 written exams.
72% average for P3 written exams.
100% average for P4 written exams.
