We are so fortunate to have our very own banana tree at school and this time even more fortunate to have gotten to it before the monkeys 🐒🐒🐒 did 😅

The Montessori math curriculum progresses from hands-on material such as the number rods and spindle boxes for basic counting to the golden beads for understanding the decimal system.

The golden beads transform something as abstract as place value into something children can see, touch, and understand. Units, tens, hundreds, and thousands are no longer just numbers on a page — they become quantities a child can hold, count, and compare.

The decimal layout is a truly monumental work — in every sense. It invites the child to build the entire base-ten system from the ground up, one bead at a time. As each quantity is laid out and matched with its symbol, the child is internalizing relationships that form the very foundation of mathematics.

Yes, it takes time, patience, and plenty of golden beads, but the sense of pride and accomplishment when they do it by themselves, priceless ❤️✨️
