Siphakeme

Siphakeme Siphakeme offers training, empowerment and skills development to pre-school teachers from lower socio-economic communities in Pietermaritzburg area.

Maximum growth of a human brain is in the first six years of life. To maximize this development children require stimulation and teaching. Many young children from lower economic families do not have optimal pre-school learning and many of these pre-schools do not have skilled, trained teachers. Each pre-school teacher trained will impact on the development of 20 to 30 children each year. Siphakeme offers two courses:
1. Educare – a Skills Development Programme. Part-time practical training on how to present lessons, rings and other activities relevant to the child’s developmental stage. Monthly contact sessions over 1 year, starting in January 2026.

2. Further Education and Training, Early Childhood Development, accredited Level 4 with the Fundamentals in English, Maths and a Second Language registered with South African Qualifications Authority. It is a part-time course with weekly contact sessions with qualified, experienced facilitators over 12 - 15 months. Career orientated training for Grade RR. My students had such fun in our art lesson. Our theme was "Toys" and they used egg shells for their teddy bears, cork printing for their aeroplanes and sponge painting for their balls.

We were so blessed to have Mrs Ellen Borain give our Educare ladies such an interesting talk on Emotional Quotient. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed every minute and have learned so much. We are going to make our own "Colour Monsters". Your practical ideas and engaging approach have given them valuable tools that they can use in their classrooms
