Freedom Day 2026
Today, as we observe Freedom Day, we are reminded not only of our rights as citizens, but also of the importance of truth, accountability, and justice.
To the alumni, parents, and broader community connected to Earlington Secondary School, I wish to address matters that have recently affected the Earlington Legacy Initiative NPC.
There have been coordinated efforts by certain individuals, including former directors currently facing pending tribunal proceedings relating to their fiduciary responsibilities, to interfere with and discredit the work of the NPC. These individuals have engaged with members of the School Governing Body (SGB) and school leadership in a manner that raises serious concern.
It is important to state clearly: allegations have been circulated claiming that the Earlington Legacy Initiative NPC improperly collected funds or harassed individuals for money. To date, no credible or verifiable evidence has been produced to substantiate these claims.
Furthermore, there have been instances where third parties, including professional contacts and family members, have reportedly been approached with the intention of damaging my personal and professional reputation. Such actions, if substantiated, may constitute defamation and unlawful interference, and will be addressed through the appropriate legal channels.
For 19 years, I have led this alumni group with discipline, structure, and integrity. It is both unreasonable and illogical to suggest that I would compromise that legacy.
To anyone who has heard rumours or has not taken the time to verify information, I encourage you to engage directly. It is easy to circulate stories, but responsible individuals seek both sides before forming conclusions. Very few have taken that step.
If you have questions or require clarity, I invite you to contact me directly on 083 657 3397. I am prepared to present supporting documentation, including records and verified communications. Do not rely on hearsay. Engage with facts.
I also find it deeply concerning that individuals would contact my family members with unverified allegations. This level of conduct reflects poorly on those involved and will not go unchallenged.
The Earlington Legacy Initiative NPC was established with a clear developmental mandate, including the introduction of advanced educational and training programs intended to benefit learners within the Phoenix district. These initiatives were designed to elevate educational standards and create meaningful opportunities for learners.
I encourage parents and stakeholders to actively engage with school governance structures. In terms of South African governance principles, SGB members are required to act in the best interests of the school and its learners, with accountability and transparency. Where this standard is not met, it must be questioned.
Parents must prioritise the quality of education their children receive. Engage, ask questions, and demand accountability where necessary.
All matters currently under dispute will be addressed through the appropriate legal and regulatory processes. Supporting evidence will be presented in the proper forums, where Factsβ NOT allegationsβ will determine the outcome.
This Freedom Day, let us stand not only for freedom, but for truth, fairness, and responsible leadership.
*The Truth Will Be Placed On Record.*
