Teaching children how to read ❤️💜💚💛❤️

I am a firm believer that children should be taught how to read before they start mainstream school. I believe it is my responsibility as a parent to prepare them for school and to give them the best possible foundation of learning from 0-7 years old. School will be less stressful because they will understand what is expected of them instead of trying to decipher words and information.

I started Emma on her reading journey at two years old (a little later than I would have liked) but now that I know better I have started Yara on her journey at 7 months old 😁

If you want to do the same, the place to start is alphabet flash cards, daily, twice a day, morning and evening until they can recognise and sound out the alphabet sounds. A common mistake is teaching kids their ABCs. Don’t do that. Rather teach then the alphabet sounds. I will be posting a video later on today of Emma doing her alphabet flash cards.

We hope this encourages more parents to start early reading with their little ones 💛

Name writing practice ✍️

I download this dot font on Word and used it to type in Emma’s name. She has traced over her name a few times and can finally write her name neatly.

Try it with your preschooler! This helps them to label and identify their work and possessions ⭐️

E loving her new Busy Book. A whole new set of activities to keep her engaged. She loves carrying it to the car to keep herself occupied during the commute to school and back. I love how one product can teach the kids so many skills. These books are recommended from 3 years + and I would highly recommend them. We have 3 of these in our collection and .collection will be closing down soon. Grab them while you can, they are an absolute treasure.

How do you engage your kids during playtime? ❤️📚🤽🏽🎭🥁🎤🧩🎮

I often wonder how other parents play with their kids…
Do you supervise and instruct them while they play or do you play together. I feel that it’s so important to have playtime with your kids in which you are sitting on the floor with them (coming down to their level) and actually spending quality time with them.

Emma and I put music on and dance together, we sing her favourite nursery rhymes (with all the actions) and we do pretend play. I think it’s healthy for the child and the adult too, to feed joy to your inner child and connect with your kids in that way. Sometimes the entire household is running around playing hide and seek.🥹😂

Life gets so busy. As time passes, the kids grow up without us even realising it and they no longer want to play with their parents.🙃

I don’t know about you but I am absolutely cherishing this time with my girls before I become not cool enough to hang with them😂🥰

The love of books is engrained into her. All those years of reading to E daily have paid off ❤️

I've found repetition and patience to be the key to teaching a toddler how to learn through play.
