On Monday, 31 August, we held our inter-house cross-country. A gruelling run for some, but fun was definitely had!

A big shout out to the parents who attended and ran with their children!

The results are in! We ran four seperate events according to the phases. Each learner who participated and crossed the finish line was awarded a point for their house with positions 1, 2 and 3 earning multiple points.

Event nr 1: Grades RRR to 2

Event nr 2: Grades 3, 4 and 5

Event nr 3: Grades 6 and 7

Event nr 4: Grades 8 to 12

And the order of points is:

1st place: Sapphire 96 points
2nd place : Ruby 70 points
3rd place : Emerald 64 points

Recognition of Outstanding Committment to Education 📖📚

Teaching and learning takes place through many innovative interventions and strategies at PEC. We strive to provide holistic learning and in the pursuit of excellence, we encourage learners to add to their learning experience outside of the classroom.

Kiara Kalia Abels from Grade 5 has made us very proud by embarking on a personal reading challenge in the subject area of Afrikaans. She has read a total of 5 Afrikaans Novels with 215 pages per novel over a period of two weeks.

We are extremely proud of her and in recognition of her outstanding efforts, she was awarded with a certificate of recognition at this week's assembly.

Kiara, you are an amazing learner who shows dedication and commitment to your education. Thank you for inspiring and encouraging your fellow learners.

The staff and learners at Paradigm Education Centre congratulate Reuban Duvenhage from Silver Creek School (a SwitchedOn Education school) on this phenomenal achievement.

Reuban was selected to travel to Russia 🇷🇺 and the UAE 🇦🇪 to build & launch into orbit a satellite with the Mission Orbita Team in October, representing South Africa, and Africa among 3 other learners who made the final Top 4!

We wish him well as he not only represents South Africa, his family, and his school, but also SwitchedOn Education.

Tomorrow we're celebrating the POTATO! (Just for fun 😝)

It's a normal school day but if you have a potato-something to pop in your child's lunchbox, please do.

Here are some fun facts for our learners (and parents) about potatoes...

* First in space: Potatoes were the very first vegetable grown in outer space by NASA and astronauts on a space shuttle.

* Ancient history: The Inca people in South America started growing potatoes over 8,000 years ago.

* Royal fashion: Queen Marie Antoinette of France once wore potato flowers in her hair to make them look fashionable.

* More potassium: A single potato has even more potassium than a banana to help keep your muscles strong.

* Not a root: Even though they grow underground, potatoes are not roots. They are special swollen stems called tubers.

* Colorful insides: They are not just brown! You can find red, purple, and even blue potatoes.

* Mostly water: A potato is made of about 80% water and 20% dry stuff.

* No tiny seeds: Farmers do not plant tiny seeds. They cut up a potato into pieces with "eyes" (buds) and plant those pieces to grow new ones.

Last week Friday our school was abuzz with fantastical creatures and fairytale characters. The pages of our favourite books came alive as the characters walked through our school grounds.

When children read, or are read to, it builds stronger language skills, and expands vocabulary. It also helps kids develop empathy, improves focus and memory, and lays the groundwork for future school success.
