Many people think earwax is dirty and should be removed regularly, but earwax plays an important role in keeping your ears healthy.
- Earwax protects your ears by trapping dust, dirt and tiny particles before they can reach the eardrum.
- It also has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, helping to reduce the risk of infections.
- Your ears are designed to clean themselves. As you talk, chew and move your jaw, old earwax gradually works its way out of the ear canal, where it dries up and falls away naturally.
Your ears are smarter than you think, they have their own built-in cleaning system!

The first few days of life can shape a lifetime.💛
A newborn hearing screening takes around one minute, is completely painless and can make a lifetime of difference. The earlier hearing challenges are identified, the sooner support can begin.
Screen early. Act early. Change lives.

Our very own Sarah Lange and Barbara Kellett, both Speech-Language Therapists and Audiologists, are the first of our four presenters taking the stage today in Virginia, USA at 16:30 (SA time) at the AG Bell Listening and Spoken Language Symposium.
Their presentation, “Supporting Equitable Paediatric Hearing Care in Africa,” highlights the importance of accessible, high-quality hearing care for children across the African continent and showcases the work and impact of the Carel du Toit Centre.
We are incredibly proud to see our Therapists share their expertise with an international audience and helping to take the Carel du Toit story far beyond our borders💛
