Today, as we commemorate Youth Day, we honour the courage and sacrifice of the young people who stood up for justice and equality on 16 June 1976.
Youth Day is more than a public holiday - it is reminder of the power of young voices to shape the future of our nation. The freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today were built on the determination of those who came before us, many of whom paid the ultimate price in the pursuit of a better South Africa.
The Wits Students’ Surgical Society urges all students and healthcare professionals to remember the purpose of this day: to reflect on our history and to honour those who fought for educational equity and human dignity.
As future healthcare leaders, may we continue to embody the spirit of service, advocacy and excellence that Youth Day represents ❤️

We also ran our Valentine’s and Easter Pop-Ups, packed with games, sweet treats, and a community handprint canvas🎨🍬 ! These were later donated to Nelson Mandela’s Children’s Home during our Easter Egg Handout - a special moment that combined creativity, community, and giving back.
